I’m coming from a C4 Corvette to this beauty and it’s for sure been a joy so far. However, I’ve noticed a few things in my first weeks ownership such as what sounds like unusual exhaust ticking from the engine 3/7 days as well as hard downshifting into 1st gear. I’ve sifted through the forums and checked out a few threads regarding possible engine defects in the 2018 as well as the possibility that the battery needs to be disconnected to reset the learning system. Also I did quite a number on my 95 corvette over the years, how reliable are these stangs with moderate abuse? Mileage is currently at 168xx.

What you’re hearing tick wise could be the direct fuel injection. The pumps are loud. The “bbq” or Coyote tick is separate but Ford claims non-harmful. It’s a big topic of discussion but many people run their cars hard with this noise and have no issues.

The Gen III Coyote is a great engine and you still have plenty of warranty left, so just let it roll and IF something happens you’re covered. If there hasn’t been a catastrophic failure by now chances are it’s not going to be an issue.

It’s very common for these engines to make 7-800 WHEEL horsepower on 100% stock internals when boosted.. so heating on a stock engine is a walk in the park. Keep it full of oil (10 quarts) and other routine maintenance.

For the downshifting - do you have different drive modes (normal, sport, etc.) that you’ve tried cycling through?

Thanks for the info. yes sports mode is a lot smoother but just shifting down into that first gear is so aggressive every time. Btw do these cars have radio codes?

No problem.

I don’t believe there are radio codes, assuming you mean the anti theft kind.
