  1. Motor oil supply tightening up

Scary predictions usually don't come true (thankfully) but just in case, anyone planning an oil change in the near future might want to buy their motor oil now, or have the oil change done now, before these projected shortages come into play...
  2. Very hard brake pedal after car sits for a while

When I go to start the car and depress the brake pedal (it's an automatic), it's rock hard. Google tells me this probably means I have a leaking vacuum brake booster or some such thing. This is something that used to happen if the car sat for a week or two, now it's doing it even if the car just...
  3. What engine temperatures are actually measured (not calculated or derived)

On my '18 GT (not a performance pack) the digital gauges have a display for Cylinder Head Temperature (actually gives a number, usually around 200 F) and a display for Oil Temperature, which just shows a "virtual gauge" without numbers (just green and red zones). And the dash has a physical...
  4. Looking for small hand/electric pump or siphon that actually works

Over the years I've tried a couple of cheap pump or siphon products from Amazon, but they're all flimsy garbage that fall apart, leak, and/or won't hold a seal. Can anyone point me to something that actually works, but isn't expensive? Willing to spend up to $50. This is for small quantities of...
  5. How much vibration is "normal" at highway speed?

I've seen previous threads about vibration, but can't seem to find them now. Ever since my car was brand new, it's had a minor but noticeable vibration once it gets up to speed (over say 45-50 mph). The vibration is mostly felt in the steering wheel and steering column, but can also be felt if I...
  6. HVAC airflow (fresh/recirc) & cabin filter

At some point in time I think I remember reading that on the S550, the airflow path bypasses the cabin air filter when the climate system is in recirculate mode. So there is no filtration unless it's set to fresh air intake. But I could be imagining or misremembering that. Does anyone know for sure?
  7. Maps & Sync updates from third party sellers?

On Ebay and probably other sites, there are listings for Ford map updates and Sync updates on USB or SD card media, at a much lower cost than from Ford. Just wondering if these things actually work, and whether they are "safe" or loaded with malware or spyware. Anyone try one of these? For...
  8. How much do you think the PP1 option actually costs Ford to build?

I know retail prices aren't set by what things cost to produce, but whatever the seller can get for it. That being said, just thinking about the parts that come with PP1 over the basic, standard Mustang GT, how much more do you think it costs Ford to build a PP1 car? I mean we're talking about...
  9. Is any programming needed to use PP1 wheels/tires on base GT (A10)?

Has anyone been running PP1 or Mach 1 staggered wheels & tires on a non-PP GT, with the automatic A10, without any tuning to adjust tire size? Just want to make sure the shift points, ABS, traction control, etc. work OK with staggered tires...considering the original programming was for...
  10. Is your gas gauge a little optimistic?

I've had my '18 since it was new, and I'm not sure if it's always been this way, or if it's been a gradual trend... but the gas gauge (analog, I don't have the digital dash) seems to read a smidge higher than the level one would expect from the trip computer's "miles remaining" estimate. For...
  11. Big insurance increase (State Farm)--anyone else?

I've had auto coverage through State Farm for many years (20-ish) and usually been satisfied with their auto rates. But they just increased the premium on my '18 Mustang GT by 27% out of the blue. I haven't had any auto claims, tickets, or accidents recently. The only explanation is a cryptic...
  12. "Knock" or "thump" sound from rear of car (trunk area?)

This is kind of a strange thing that may be nothing. I have a 2018 GT with low miles (15k) due to Covid and changes in my work schedule. Lately I notice that not long after I start it and begin driving, after a minute or two there is a pretty loud "knock" or "tap" sound (just one time) from...
  13. "Most efficient" steering mode?

The answer to this question is probably “it doesn’t really make any difference,” but I’ll ask anyway. Which steering mode is most efficient, in terms of minimizing alternator load, and therefore maximizing power and fuel economy? On the one hand, Sport steering mode seems to provide less power...
  14. Anyone running staggered PP tires on non-PP A10 car?

The base GT comes with 235/50R18 all around, which have about a 27.3" diameter. If you change to, say, a set of PP1 wheels and tires, the fronts are 27.0" and the rears are 27.7" (give or take a little bit). For a base A10 car, would changing to staggered tires like this need any changes...
  15. How to post PLAIN TEXT links to youtube videos? (disable the auto-embedding?)

It seems like whenever I want to include a link to a youtube video within a post, this forum detects it and converts it to embed the video within the forum post. Often, I do not want this to happen, I only want the plain text URL to be in the post. How do I keep the forum from automatically...
  16. Air filter replacement

This is really just a rant, not a substantive post, but I just came in from a hot-ass day replacing my OEM air filter with an AEM Dryflow drop in. I'd like to extend a "very special thanks" to whatever engineer or designer put that metal tab thing on the front inner fender that sticks into the...
  17. Any benefit to strut tower brace by itself?

For a base (non-PP) car, is there any benefit to adding a strut tower brace by itself, without the cowl bracing? I get that it would all work best with the cowl bracing to tie it together, but interested to hear any opinions.
  18. Price of premium gas (relative to regular 87 octane)

I haven't been driving much so I haven't been keeping close track of gas prices. Today I stopped at a Valero to fill up and their 93 octane grade was $3.05/gallon. Their 87 octane was $1.95. So the premium was $1.10 more a gallon than regular. That's insane. I needed gas so I put a few gallons...
  19. #%^&! Rats. Be on the lookout...

I've lived in my house for 18 years and I've never had a rat or mouse problem (that I know of), until now. Yesterday I spotted a large mouse or small rat in my garage. It ran off somewhere and I couldn't find it. But I had a bad feeling since I've only been driving my car about once a week, or...
  20. How often should you drive a car? (Edit: To prevent a dead battery or deterioration from disuse)

Like many people, I'm working from home and not going out as often as I did during "normal" times. Maybe once a week, I try to fire up my Mustang and take it for a drive, if, for no other reason, to try to keep the battery alive. But, I'm just kind of wondering, is once a week really "often"...
