  1. Tell me why i should upgrade my sway bars!

For a SSBB setup, a bigger bar will work. However, you also need the softer springs to allow the outside front tire to travel a lot and the inside front tire to travel a little rather than go into droop. This keeps both front tire contact patches at max in dive, wheels turned assuming...
  2. '86 Coupe Project

I'm a four-eyed Fox fan too. Love these cars. Hard to find good examples these days. Build should be fun. Have my own '86 Resto-mod/Pro-T car. It's a vert. Mine is designed for autocross, HPDE/PDX, and street. Not seeing a drag strip. As a result, it has the full MM suspension...
  3. Anyone get nervous running to redline?

I've taken my stock '16 GT pp to fuel-cut a few times; brutal transition. Not something I'd want to do regularly especially at events.
  4. Spring rates????

So BBSS seems to be the strategy for these cars. I see why the adjustables would help keep the nose down on roll-through. I'm trying to stay in FS so spring changes are not in the cards, nor a true rear C/O. We can swap bars on one end; seems the correct place would be the front - perhaps a...
  5. Jacking rails for F-Street?

I jacked the rear of my new edge cobra from the pumpkin many times. Just needed to place the jack-pad in the right place to keep it from trying to rotate in the bushings. You guys that have modded those mounts probably won't have a problem. In any event, there are much better places to service...
  6. Post Your Dings, Dents, Scuffs and more!

If you have the back-up camera, the lines tell you how close you are to the curb. Put green just a tad off the curb and you are golden. Get into the grey - bump. Same with backing into a spot with a car behind you. Stop at yellow - golden. Go to red - bump.
  7. Rear Brake Upgrade

Given that the 6-pot Brembo is a big brake with 15" rotors, it doesn't surprise me that it "feels" better. All Fox owners went down this same path when switching to the Cobra brakes, even when a drum was left on the back. But a true test is stopping distance. I actually tested the Fox after...
  8. Rear Brake Upgrade

Factory set the F/R brake bias to work with the selected calipers, rotor sizes, weight of the car, the tires, the front geometry strategy, etc. Just swapping to the PP front brakes probably messed with your F/R bias. Not certain the ABS has built-in learning to account for such changes. I know...
  9. Tolerance for suspension clunks, other noises

I've done a lot of suspension mods over the years. Some increased NVH (harmonics), some did not (or least not noticeable to me). I've found that rotating noise (e.g., gears) when transferred into the cabin due to rigid mounts that act like amplifiers, are the worst and generally cannot be fixed...
  10. Brembo Cold weather performance

Last couple of days AM temps have been in the teens ambient. I've not noticed any difference with initial brake bite than before when temps were warmer. However, the tires have a bit more trouble with grip. And as stated, the brakes and tires work better with some heat.
  11. BMRs 38mm Front Sway Bar

What he's talking about is the front strategy of high travel/low roll (HT/LR); Ford used this on the s550 As opposed to say the Fox and SN95 cars, where Ford used the low travel/high roll (LT/HR) strategy. The two strategies cannot be mixed or handling goes into the gutter. The TRS as...
  12. Tank Capacity

All summer I was getting between 23.5 and 24 MPGs on my 82 mile round trip, mixed commute (showing 360+ to empty). Lately, with the cold and perhaps switch to winter gas, mileage has dropped 1 MPG average to 22.5 to 23 - same commute. Does run richer, longer in open-loop. 8K on the odo.
  13. Mods under $500, need opinions!

I've been auto-crossing for nearly ten years - as a "hobby" (LOL). I've run FWD (mostly Hondas), Mustangs (Fox, new edge Cobra, s550), MINI's (FWD but a lot different than a Honda). You have to decide if you want to be competitive or not - even locally. Depending on whether the good Bimmer...
  14. Winter driving

I drove my new edge Cobra all seasons; snow or otherwise. Not a big deal here in Maryland. The '16 GT is a lot different. More power and torque out of the box, even with the mods I had on the Cobra. For example, I leave my office yesterday using the same route. It was plenty cold all day...
  15. Thanks for the scare Austin PD

Was sitting in the 86 at a light with the top down; roll bar clearly present. Cop rolled up and asked if I auto-crossed the car (big square set-up, no rear seat, etc.). I said yep. He nodded and said looks good; keep it at the track. Not sure if he'd seen me at FedEx or what.
  16. Our Pirelli tires have no warranty ?

The problem with the staggered wheel/tire is we can't rotate them for optimal mileage. I've been running 280 TW summer tires for at least eight years now and with a square set-up and somewhat routine rotation, maybe I got 20K out of a set on a new edge Cobra. Really depends on how much...
  17. EZ Pass

In Maryland, the EZ works for multiple cars. Although they say the car must have the pass, they do deduct from the account if it's not read (they take pics). However, when going into VA, it's a little different. They charge an admin fee if the pass isn't read - that fee is pretty steep. In...
  18. tire size input (FS)

Depends on the tread width, tread design, aspect ratio and tread compound, not carcass width. Tread width should be the same or narrower than wheel width for maximum traction. The wider tread on a narrower rim, the less air you can run in order to reduce crowning. The tread will squirm more...
  19. SCCA Autocrossing- Time to take it up a notch

7mm is a bit more than .25". I've been running .5" spacers on my Fox for years. The issue is not shear-loading if the lugs are on per spec. Racers have been using spacer tuning for years. To allow the most adjustability within the rules, I'd recommend spacers. The trick is finding wheel...
  20. Jacking rails for F-Street?

We went through this with the Fox chassis and sn95 cars except for SFCs. No question these helped the flexi-flier Foxes and to some extent the sn95s. Even STBs and G-loads were outlawed for a bunch of years. Fox sand sn95s couldn't compete; had to go to ESP or CP. but even in those classes...
