  1. FYI, Ground-Control offerings for the S550

Not a huge fan of the material GC uses for their CO pieces. Mine tends to corrode making it difficult to adjust over time. The MM pieces I use don't corrode. I'm also not a fan of the SA Konis. Had better luck with Bilsteins.
  2. Brakes Touchy?

Pretty touchy to me too. I've driven BBK cars but this one seems overly front biased. Not certain of the pad material either. Practicing the "limo stop" has helped learn to modulate these things.
  3. 409 Stainless Steel

I had a Borla cat-back on my new-edge Cobra. The only item that failed was the slip pipe from the Borla stainless to the stock mid-pipe. That piece was not even aluminized steel and completely rotted out from rust. I replaced both sides about two years ago. Borla exhaust was on the car for...
  4. Looking for some positive vibes.

My last car before the 2016 GT was a New Edge Cobra. This s550 is light years ahead. IRS is better; more power and N/A; better factory gearing and the 6 speed is actually a 5 speed with an OD as opposed to a Tremic. I autocross a lot and found my 86 to be much faster than the Cobra. But this...
  5. Thinking about getting a GT

Just picked up a 2016 Premium, PP and Recaros; Magnetic. Price I couldn't refuse and none of my money at risk. Deals are out there.
  6. Does anyone else think their clear coat scratches easily?

Don't have the time to mess with this. I have mine detailed twice a year and those swirls are a memory for the most part.
  7. Introduce yourself!!

Greetings. New owner of a 2016 GT Premium, PP and Recaros; Magnetic. Currently own an '86 GT restomod memorial to our deceased daughter. Used to own a New Edge Cobra and way back a '79 coupe. Was a Chevy guy back in the day and Car Craft felt compelled to do an article on my '70 Nova SS big...
  8. J&M Products Patented Caster Camber Plates Now Available!

Been running the MM CC plates on my 86 for nearly five years. Haven't experienced any additional NVH in all those years. The design and quality generally makes the biggest difference in these suspension pieces.
  9. Koni setups, let's hear them. (Or other dampers)

If you enlarge the bottom hole you will retain tire/spring clearance better. This is the hole Bilstein enlarges on their dampers. Just a suggestion.
  10. Koni is here!

Bought some Koni sports four years ago for our 01 Prelude. Needed to cut the stock bump-stop nearly in half and enlarge the hole for the Koni shaft. the enlargement was easy. Mounted a drill to my bench, chucked up the correct size bit and fired it up. Was easy to run the bump-stop over the...
  11. Are spacers really as bad as everyone says?

Been running .5" spacers for years - very grippy tires and lots of 180s. The physics is over my head but this little tech piece from MM should put this to rest--> http://www.maximummotorsports.com/tech_wheels_spacers.aspx
  12. 275/40/19 instead of 255/40/19

In my experience the 275 on a 9" rim causes the tire to loose foot-print and grip; also tends to squirm a bit in roll-over. The better match is a 255 on a 9". I'd go so far to say that a 275 on a 9.5" is not optimal despite Ford's choice for the PP wheels. Check out the GT350 and R. The...
  13. Is the GT350 Track Pack spoiler a cosmetic mod only?

Aero is a package. If you create rear down force, you need corresponding front down force. The GT350 stock splitter is probably enough with the stock rear spoiler. Put a wing on it that gets into the airflow, and the front will likely need more.
  14. Shopping for my next F-Street Mustang

The fast guys hit the limiters all the time. Short of a dedicated car with two speed stick or CR auto, hitting the limiter is to be expected. Two seconds, however, is a very long time in AX.
  15. camber plates/autox

MM - I have their entire catalogue on the '86. Transformed the car. For comparative purposes, the '86 would run circles around my '01 Cobra even with the Cobra's HP and IRS advantage.
  16. What are your track/AutoX alignment settings?

I'm going with what I've learned from the Fox and sn95. Toe at zero (not a fan of toe-out despite alleged "better" turn-in). Camber as much as I can get but around -2.5*; Caster around +6*. Although a street car, I don't do road crown variations in my settings - i.e., so-called cross...
  17. BAER BRAKES!! Getting serious about stopping!

^^ StopTech and Brakeman are truly performance calipers. Guys, the tires stop the car; the brakes facilitate the stopping. Put 15" rotors with 6 piston calipers on a car with skinny front runners and there will be zero improvement in stopping distance. Moreover, braking is a system. The...
  18. Track Brake Compounds

Tried Pagid but they are hard on rotors. I'm a Hawk fan on the 86 (StopTech ST40s), but will be trying Reybestos ST46s on the '16.
  19. The Big Fat Track Car Cooling Thread

Can't say anything about my '16 IRS, but I owned an '01 Cobra with IRS for 15 years. That IRS needed a cooler; apparently the newer one does too as the GT350 has one. Full Tilt Boogie (http://fulltiltboogieracing.com/) plays around with the older IRS and I suspect they will be into the newer...
  20. Shopping for my next F-Street Mustang

Drove an '01 Cobra for years with 3.55s. Routinely got 24 MPGs on an 85 mile mixed commute. Had my '16 GT PP for a week and getting 23.4 MPGs on the same commute. If gas economy is the issue, the PP package is not the problem; the right foot is. Also, Cobra never hit the limiter in long A/X...
