Not everyone... here's a scenario that gets to 50% of the fleet being EV in 20 years.
  2. I can’t win…

You're taking this whole discussion as an insult, but it's not. We are trying to help. It's fine to be young. It's fine to have a co-signer. It's fine to not know how purchase agreements work. All of us were those things at one time. That build adds up to $44,950 including destination fees...
  3. I can’t win…

Two scenarios here: either (1) the OP is underage (or doesn't have great credit) so his dad went to actually sign the paperwork and pickup the car or (2) the OP signed the paperwork before taking delivery but didn't read or understand the fine print about the add-ons. In either case, there are...

The US vehicle "fleet" replacement rate is 7% which equates to replacing effectively all the vehicles every 15 years. (Yes, there's always a long tail.) You could absolutely see EVs be the majority of new-car sales in 10 years or less and the majority of cars on the road in 20 years or less.

It is hilarious that even a nuclear fusion reactor is basically just a giant tea kettle.

No offense intended, but your politics may be getting in the way of the facts. (Despite where I live, I am firmly moderate on the political spectrum.) Solar is now the cheapest form of energy production. Solar combined with energy storage facilities like the real options I mentioned can work as...

Nuclear is a good addition. It seems to me it has to be part of the equation. You could perhaps add hydroelectric and geothermal too. There are ways to manage variable energy sources like solar and wind. Sure, lithium-ion batteries can be part of the equation. But you can also store energy by...

Excellent. And then what do we do for the next 7 to 8 billion years until the sun explodes and incinerates all of humanity?
  9. Prices are on the rise......

For $75-$150 you can find a buyer. Here’s how I do it: Get the car detailed for $75 (or do it yourself) and take some photos in a scenic location during the “golden hour” (the last hour or two before sunset) Look at other for sale posts to get a sense for what’s in a well written listing...
  10. Drive your car now, says Car and Driver

I agree with you on the mainline models. But there are special vehicles being made now on mass market platforms. Swan songs for internal combustion and manual transmissions. I could see any/all of the following being collectible in 30 years when every vehicle is electric powered and many are...

We just need to scale nuclear fusion and all will be solved....
  12. Prices are on the rise......

I've heard the same thing on the BMW forums - values may be softening a bit. The Fed data for February shows a slight decline, but it's so small that it's more accurate to say values are stabilizing. I got offers of $11,000 (CarGurus) to $16,600 (Carmax) for my 2014 BMW 320i. I have it...
  13. Prices are on the rise......

I paid a Northern California dealer $62K for basically that same car last August. I think prices have gone up since then. You should be able to get $62K private party pretty easily. If you get bids from all the online auto dealers you may get that on trade-in too. Good luck!
  14. Prices are on the rise......

I don't know what to tell you man... you may believe that but I am just quoting real, publicly-available facts. Carmax's gross profit per retail unit is $2,185 and their gross profit per wholesale unit is $1,005. Obviously their average selling price is a lot lower than our $60K cars (it is -...
  15. Prices are on the rise......

That doesn't sound like an insult. You can't expect them to pay you retail. Carmax is a public company. They reported a gross profit margin of 9.8% in the most recent fiscal quarter. Their highest recent gross margin was 14% in summer 2020 as used-car prices were going up rapidly due to the...

My bet is that you're going to be shocked how much things change in the next 10 years.
  17. Prices are on the rise......

I'm with @stanglife on this one. MSRP means Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. The franchise dealership system empowers dealers to set actual retail prices. That sucks when they charge ADMs or add high-margin extras onto a car or are generally sketchy. It also creates opportunities for...
  18. I can’t win…

I believe I figured it out. He OP posted a picture of the dealership add-ons, which were $3385 on a $42,000 MSRP. He then said his bill of sale included about $3000 of extras, so I believe they charged her for all of the add ons and then gave them his discount.
  19. I can’t win…

Even five grand off MSRP would be a good deal, if the eight grand included them discounting all the unnecessary stuff. But the OP should definitely try to get a full $8K off MSRP on an ordered car, otherwise what’s the point of waiting?
