  1. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

I won't be attaching the main dash panel until everything is totally working. It was such a pain to get off, I'm not putting it on until everything is confirmed working. My only real worry is maybe the GPS antenna won't work right. If that needs replacing, I don't want to have to take apart the...
  2. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

And everything appears to work! I've got some testing to do, and some ForeScan to do, and then I'll get back here with Act 3: ForeScan programming.
  3. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Everything is screwed back together. I've reconnected the battery, and started the car:
  4. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Screw in the 7mm screws (there are 4, 2 on top, 2 on bottom). It's easier to have the shifter out of park for this.
  5. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

APIM/screen now attached, so I re-install the bezel, which is kind of a pain. The bottom part of the bezel doesn't want to slide in without appeals to some pretty obscure saints.
  6. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Once all of the cables are carefully stuffed into the cavity, screw the four 7mm screws into the brackets.
  7. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

This is the APIM with the harness cables plugged in. Check out the black USB hub cable being plugged into the black connector on the APIM.
  8. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

This is a very poor image of me holding the APIM next to its hole, like it's going home. The thing on the left is the APIM.
  9. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Swapping out a screen with the APIM is totally easy. I recommend it. Very little swearing. Much less stressful than this mess: Note that the ACM is installed. It was pretty easy to get in and connected to its cables, which is good, because you are connecting the cables blind.
  10. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Screen is connected to the APIM. A view of the old screen next to the new (with APIM). Plus some towels and a screwdriver. Of course, this stuff is all pretty fragile, so care must be taken. Set these things on some dirty towels! I'm kidding. The towels are clean. Just old. And so soft.
  11. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

I am now screwing the screws in. I won't connect the APIM to the screen (yellow connector) until done with this screw. Connected!
  12. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

The APIM is now resting, in position, on the new screen. Note the brackets! Also, I've drawn a square around the black connector. Later on, I shall plug in the cable from the USB hub into that connector. That cable is part of the wiring harness. Felt good to use both of those words.
  13. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

I believe this is totally correct. You've earned a producer credit.
  14. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

I will begin to remove the APIM from the cracked screen. One of the screws is kind of blocked by the cable that connects the screen to the APIM. It makes things slightly easier to disconnect the cable at the YELLOW end. It has a small tab. Once you press it in, real easy to get the cable out. A...
  15. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Dang it, I was pretty sure that harness wasn't quite the right word. I will now refer to it as bracket. Although I've called similar pieces of bent sheet metal harnesses before. Bah. If it wasn't for the French invading England in 1066, we'd be calling this thing by its proper German name.
  16. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Shogun32, I am flattered that you assume I have a soul. I am going to have to call my mom. I have a Lincoln that probably has a very similar if not the same digital gauge cluster. But you are correct, caution is the better part of valor, given the difficulty and expense of that particular...
  17. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

The APIM is attached to the screen with 3 regular phillips head screws. Here are some more close up details.
  18. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

This is the new screen, with the harness attached. Face down. This is where I shall attach the APIM.
  19. Possibly Upgrading Infotainment From 4" Base To 8" SYNC 3 w/Nav, etc

Putting the harness on the new used screen. I think. I can't tell if this picture is taking screws off or putting them on. Either way, you get the idea.
