I pretty much had no choice. They told me I could take the settlement and keep the car, but the car loan must be paid off from the settlement and then it must be titled as salvage. So I'd be left with not enough money to repair it, and a car with a salvage title thus ensuring me that its value...
I wasn't even in the car when it happened. We had a bad storm one night. If the tree would have been like 6-8 inches further aft then the damage would have been less & repair within the 75% budget.
Ugh. Well, it doesn't matter much anymore. The car is totaled. A tree fell and bounced off my quarter panel, smashing it. At first the body shop said they'd be able to fix it and I set it up to have the hood re-painted to fix this problem at the same time. But then I got a call from...
I wondered about that. If they had gone through with it, who would know just how much was done? Carfax doesn't list or break down repairs. They might just say "damage reported to rear quarter". So how would someone put a dollar amount on how much value it would lose?
The reason I'm not buying a Ford is not because of this. I was not happy with the overall quality of the product. I've had too many service/warranty headaches - in fact, they were supposed to re-paint the hood while it was there to fix the corrosion and paint bubbling under warranty that...
Well it doesn't matter now. Bad news. They totaled it. I got a call from Insurance and did a conference call with the body shop to try and get an explanation. He said that at first he thought he could section the upper door surround, but when he went to put it in the system there was an...
What I was looking at was two pieces. See diagram. Just replacing the full quarter wouldn't require replacing the other part, does it? Seems to me that they could just cut it at the point where the quarter ends. But in my case, there is some damage near the aft area of that pillar section so...
Bringing this old thread back to life with a question. I am having my quarter replaced due to a tree that got split in half during a storm.....but my damage also includes a new trunk, tail light, roof will need some dent pulling and paint, and the upper door frame (not sure what you call it)...
Not for me. 50+, no tickets/wrecks, FICO well over 800.
When I bought the '15 V6 It was $480/6 mo.......at my last renewal it has risen to $611. it has gone up each renewal; in fact, from November '15 to November '16 it went up $100/6 mo. I'm due for a renewal in about a month and I'm...
No, they don't (or shouldn't) all do it. Mine does not. But I drove a rental (EB Premium, 16) and it definitely vibrated. I could tell the difference immediately. It was real bad on a smooth highway. There is no way a normal car should vibrate like that.
Oh ok. Well would this type of repair affect my resale value?
I spoke to the body shop today and they said the official estimate was approved by SF and they've ordered parts. It came to around 7K.
I think State Farm is just a flat 80% up to $1,000. It wouldn't matter if I rented a Corolla or an F-150 Super Crew. Their contract is with Hertz for the lowest rates so I get to choose from their inventory.
The hood may be the least of my problems right now. Car got hit by a falling tree that was hit by lightning. They say it looks like a good 10 grand but I'm waiting to hear the firm estimate. There's a chance it could be totaled. If not, they'll be doing the hood painting along with the...
Windows are the least of the problems. BTW as part of my job the rear window will have to be removed as well.... plus the windshield if they're going to cut that pillar out. Quality of the welds... Also for me is the paint. Ruby Tintcoat is a special process, not just your standard clearcoat.
Only $5k damage and you're getting 75% of the car fixed? That seems low. A quarter panel is $1,000 alone, then you need a bumper and whatever else.
With mine, having to do that door frame/pillar is going to seriously jack the price up. I did not hear from the insurance yet.
I am indeed kind of pissed. I have had a ton of bad luck with this car ever since I bought it. People are telling me to get rid of it.
The silver lining would have been if a tree fell on the parts of the car that had rock chips (hood & front bumper) but instead the parts of it that are in...
I don't think they are replacing the bumper. I wiped all the leaves off and looked at it carefully, I did not see any scratches. I was worried about the tabs attaching to the quarter because it was pulled away a bit but the body guy said it did not look broken.
I do have rental coverage. I...
Update: The body shop guy pointed out a couple dents and paint scrapes on the roof. Maybe they can PDR that but it means paint now will include the roof. Also, he was saying that based on where they have to section the upper door frame they'll have to replace that as one piece...it goes all...
