Sold just fine until the tax rebates got pulled. EV sales have slowed in the US in general, so I think you chalk up the Mach E’s 2026 sales to the broader slow down in the US EV market (down 24% through the first half of 2026 compared to the same time last year).
But it never seriously competed with Tesla which is what Ford hoped it would do.

it’s just proof adding the Mustang brand does not automatically make a car a success, thus no need to add this new performance oriented sedan into the Mustang brand either. If it’s good the product can stand on it’s own.

I don’t know the man from Adam, but this seems like a Farley thing because he likes for things to be his idea. “Let’s not use Mustang legacy name plates like Boss and Mach 1 because we’re moving to the future. Let’s also slap the Mustang name on a completely new vehicle because we want the inherent brand recognition.” It’s contradictory

Look no further than the Mach E for proof making a new vehicle and calling it a “Mustang” doesn’t work. And a bunch of people with marketing degrees guessed wrong on that one.

so yeah, make a new IP or use a legacy one that has history as a 4 door because both of those options give you just as much chance for success without pissing off a lot of enthusiasts. Seriously, there’s not much advantage in reality to calling it a Mustang. If there was Mach E would be selling like hotcakes.
But if the 4 door is primarily a stretch job, calling it something else won't work. Mach E shared nothing.

And imagine the horror of the inevitable assembly line screw up accidentally slapping Galaxie badges on a Dark Horse. And the subsequent fakes when the real ones are as rare as 55 double Ds (the coins, not the melons).

Gonna press X to doubt Ford ever expected their first gen EV to compete with the advanced designs from decades of doing it Tesla has developed. Everything I ever read about it it was the first step into that world and the learnings that came with it would be used to make better ones in the future.

The Tesla competitor is the Fathom and line of vehicles based on that, per Ford's hopes and dreams.

that’s my fear too, that it’s just a stretch job. I don’t mind it taking Mustang cues but a stretch job would be worst case scenario for me. Because then you’re right

let’s see how fathom does. I’m not too keen on that name or the marketing so far but I’m willing to give it a chance. At least it’s original

Let’s all recognize that the Mach E had the Mustang badging on it, cuz some bean counter saw they had extra badges and could save a couple of dollars

while we're at it, fathom is a dumb name for a truck

if it doesn't sell well the jokes will write themselves
"fathom" is a measuremt six feet, underwater right? The six feet under jokes write themselves for sure.

ford is making a lot of weird decisions lately. Under Mullally, they knew exactly what to do, what their customers wanted, and they made vehicles accordingly. Nowadays, everything seems so disconnected from reality and even when they fail, they don't learn. they just double down.

While I continue to wait for a Mustang worth my money (Really wanted a new Cobra or GT500. Instead got last gen GT500 rebadged into something generic), I have been looking for a nice, full sized V8 SUV. Guess what? I can't find one from ford. They don't even make one. I was looking seriously at Bronco Raptors last year. But again, no V8. The F150 has a Raptor R with a full on supercharged monster V8. Bronco? V6 only. And a problematic v6 at that.

So I looked at GMC Yukon. It is looking really nice. But... it's GM. Not really a fan. No CarPlay either. So it's a no-go. so I looked at Jeep. Like the 392 V8. But Jeeps have lots and lots of stupid issues. I am not looking to spend that kind of money on a headache. At the current prices, BMW and Mercedes are making compelling V8 SUVs, but they aren't really roomy like the american ones.

It really sucks to be a Ford guy right now. Legendary nameplates are put out to pasture. High performance tiers are barely better than last gen, Iconic vehicles are melted down into branding fairy dust to sell other vehicles instead of focusing on making the icon truly iconic, basic stuff is priced like it's premium exotic stuff, features are getting deleted while prices go up, and we can't even get a V8 in any SUV they make. Even the Big boat Expedition only nets you a V6. Meanwhile the Escalade at Cadillac offers a supercharged V8. You can't even option one at Ford.

so I guess when I really thing about it, a four door Mustang is par for the course with the folks running things n Dearborn right now.

Just sucks to be a ford guy and even more so to be a Mustang fan. what is there to be excited about anymore? the Mustang looks good, sounds good, but performance is just good, not great. Pricing is horrid. The cars we really want to dig our teeth into are priced into Ferrari territory, the GT500, Cobra, etc. have all been publicly declared dead by Jim Farley. The SC thing is just an upgraded last gen GT500 but priced like it was some thoroughly brand new development, the GTD, which should have been the new GT500 is priced like it's a new Lambo, costing more than the truly new ZR1, which destroys it, etc.

Can't wait for the new Camaro to come out so Ford can feel a fire lit under it again. Because it's really difficult being stuck with nothing to buy. Can't get excited about the GTD. I'll never afford one. Can't get excited about the SC. Hate the name, the looks, and it's barely better than the previous GT500 while costing a lot more. Can't settle for a basic Dark Horse or GT, can't even get a Hot Rod V8 SUV in the meantime.

So again, I am stuck waiting, along with my dollars that are getting itchy in my wallet. The BMW and Escalade are looking better and better.

Looking forward to seeing the new Camaro. And then, I must wait another year or two to see how Ford responds. Then, it will be time to figure out which way to go.

You wouldn't buy a 3.5 EB Expedition?

way more power than a 5.3 Yukon/Burb (and who would consider a 6.2 right now?)
100%. I got a new Tahoe Premier as a rental recently, and my twin turbo ‘24 Expedition Limited would curb stomp it. The 3.5 Ecoboost has way more torque that you’d expect. It pulls like a diesel because the turbos spool instantly.

Mercedes GLS63 AMG is faster and handles way better that the Escalade V. It’s a great choice if money is burning a hole in your pocket and want a good sized SUV. :)

Well put, especially the Mustang parts.

And then there's the bold. Everybody's prices are on the rise, but it's like Ford has this weird vibe that they're a luxury player and going batshit with pricing. But the quality just isn't there. It's great to be aspirational and all, but when you're not cutting it and the industry king of recalls, maybe it's time to step back and evaluate what the hell you're doing.
