The S550 has some physical HVAC controls. You can't control floor vs dash without going through screens. Other vehicles are waaaaay worse than that.

The point is that for every person that would like more screens/tech, there's others that want less screens/tech, and definitely real physical gauges and HVAC controls that don't take your focus off the road.

And FYI, setting S550 HVAC to auto eventually wrecks the damper system inside the dash, so it's to be avoided.

The real business opportunity is NOT in after-market additional screens and such. All vehicles are being consumed by them. The real business opportunity will be retrofitting gauges and/or easy-to-use HVAC controls. Not for just us old people, but for those that want to do actual driving, and not just posing in front of a bunch of screens.

Basically taking a fake HVAC control panel, and having it utilize the existing electronic controls. THAT would be a sales winner, if it's done to look OEM and integrated.

We need to keep in mind that iPads stuck on dashes is not a thing because it's better, it's done because it's cheaper. It's a cost-cutting measure.

Both of my S550's (2015 and 2016) stay on auto 99.9% of the time and everything works just fine...All of my cars I've ever owned that have Auto HVAC stay on auto 99.9% of the time...Knock on wood but I've never had a blend door or other actuator fail in an automatic HVAC system. Not to say it doesn't happen, blend door motors do go bad, but they'll go bad whether you use auto or not.

I don't think I've ever manually changed on the screen the mode of air on my S550's. I just leave it in auto it works great for me. To each their own.

I do not disagree, physical HVAC controls are superior, but as someone who uses and loves auto mode on every vehicle I have ever owned, the S550's physical controls are absolutely adequate.

My wife's '14 Fusion stays on auto 99% of the time. She has had 2 blend door failures. Fortunately they were reachable without disassembling the dash.

When the APIM on my '12 Edge failed you could still partially control the hvac. I could not control the modes and there was no easy way to tell the temp.

Others look at the situation differently. Some think they're not adequate. I am one.
