Whirring sound in all gears near shifter appears to get louder with load.

Was recently cruising home and noticed this odd sound. Sounds mechanical and increases under load/wheel speed. Don't know if it's always been there, as I ride with the windows down the majority of the time (No AC ). Also, my center console gets pretty toasty; could definitely keep your coffee warm.
I recently installed a DSS one-piece. I'm going to check the bolts/flange to make sure none are loose, as I did locktite them and torque them down to 85 ft-lb + star pattern, but it's always worth a check; I will also check out my pinion angle while I'm there. The sound does go away when I depress the clutch, and I notice that at idle it makes a weird chattering sound that ALSO goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed. I'm hoping it's not a bearing in the transmission, as it was replaced under warranty a little over 10K miles ago... Just wanting to verify this is either normal and I'm hearing things or another problem I need to address.

EDIT: I also have bad random clutch chatter/jerking sometimes when taking off. It's really on and off when it happens; could be related and may need a new throwout bearing even though that was also replaced recently.

One piece drive shafts transfer more noise so it might have always been there.

your problem is the clutch.

Lightweight flywheels cause a lot of chatter at idle. Kinda normal.

the other sound is probably the driveshaft. The extra stiffening probably transmits more of it, and I can’t say if its normal.

I bought a Mustang three years ago. It had vibrations from the start, and they were severe. I figured if possible, I'd fix them, no matter how long it took or if I could do it. The most important thing was to find the cause. It took me 1.5 years. I've now solved the problem—I've completely eliminated the vibrations.

This topic is complex and requires a lot of writing. I provided the cause to the thread's author based on the information he provided. In short: I had the same symptoms.

Of course, I'm writing in the context of my own case and my experience and knowledge.

Regarding the DS you mentioned—it's possible, but unlikely in this case—there's not enough information.

I repeat—based on the information currently provided here, the clutch is the culprit.
