Gash in my drivers seat after dealer oil change!

I know I won't be able to get this fixed since I just noticed it since it was a week ago, but I was cleaning my car out and noticed this today. Most my driving been night so didn't notice it. It appears something sharp such as a knife made this tear! I don't want to buy seat covers because it takes the cooled and heated seats away, granted I don't use them much except when my cars been sitting at the market all day and my balls are sweating. How much to get it repaired or reupholstered? No way I did this because I had nothing sharp on me. Pretty pissed off. Also noticed a bit of new rash on one of the rear rims that wasn't there before. THIS is why I hate taking my car anywhere. I normally don't go to dealers, but the large KIA dealer I bought it from gave me two free oil changes.

My 2021 GT/CS has much softer leather and the easy in/out feature where the seat moves back when you turn the car off. So less stress on the bolster in that area getting in and out of the car.

My 2012 GT never did that but had nearly identical leather and after a short time deformed but dealer said it would get denied warranty work. I bought my 2012 in 2011 and traded it in Sept 2020 didn't have any tears just the same wrinkled wear. My 2016 Camaro SS had much better leather seats.

Dealers just dont care, its about doing the job as quickly as possible as cheaply as possible in most cases.
My Van when is was 3 months old went in for its first free Oil change and to fix a couple of minor faults and luckily I walked around it and one of the rear lights was smashed and the bits were on the floor so they could not claim it hadnt happened there. The mechanic reckoned it wasnt him but eventually they replaced it through ''good will''.
My neighbour took his Mazda into the main dealer for a recall and that had a dent in the drivers door when he went to collect it and they claimed it was there when he dropped it off. Luckily he had taken a video when he dropped it off because he had problems on a previous occasion.

How do you not notice that upon getting into the car at the dealership after the oil change??​

Go on eBay and source the upper S550 leather upholstery - there’s always take offs on there or whole seats for decent prices.​

Doesn’t your Ford Dealership take images of the exterior and inteior before they take the car from you? The one I go to does this practice. I also always take pics of the car on their lot, both exterior, interior and rims before I even get to the Service Center entry so that I have record of how I left the car with them.​

I wish there was a quality heavy leather OEM+ cover that looks original but better and thicker leather.

I believe the bolsters are all vinyl and only leather "faces" on the GT Mustangs. It looks like vinyl to my untrained eye.

Doesn't excuse the fact it had been damaged, but may make it slightly cheaper to fix.

I agree with this. After zooming in on it, definitely looks like it is wear, not a cut. Sad for a 6 year old car, but I don't think Ford's leather is all that great. How many miles on the car?

He purchased it from a KIA dealership as noted in 1st post.
No such thing as a "Free" oil change from them it seems.

There is no way that is just normal wear. The mark is clearly going in a specific direction all the way through the damage.

I maybe would agree it could be normal wear if the direction of the damage was the same direction as the creases, but it is not.

That is the trick. Do a video at the dealership in the parking lot when you drop it off so they can’t deny it. I do the same when I get or drop off a loaner or rental car. The video and automatic time stamp have ended a couple of arguments with dealers and rental car companies in the past so I do it religiously.

There’s scuffs and abrasions all up and down the area, even outside the direct line on the tear. There are visible permanent creases that align with the tear. Additionally, the layer directly under appears to be protruding through the tear from the inside. This area has been smashed and creased repeatedly to the point of failure.

I disagree with assertions that this is from long term wear. The inner bolster and seat faces are genuine leather, this is demonstrated by the grain, and the thickness of the hide that is visible in the cut area. The middle/outer bolster are vinyl/pleather/“vegan” leather/naugahyde or whatever you’d like to call it, as evidenced by the “grain” and extreme thinness of the “skin”.

The length, direction and shape of the damage don’t appear to follow wear of the bolster because anything that would cause the thicker real leather of the inner bolster/seat face to be cut like that would take force in one direction. Notice the clean cut extension and smooth edges. Leather doesn’t wear that way without showing major degradation. It frays and exposes worn hide fibers on the edges.

This bolster was likely stabbed by an object that was then pulled upwards. Since a tool protruding from a pocket could not stab the bolster and drag upwards (you sit down, the tool drags down) in that manner I’d guess it was punctured by a sharp tool in a left hand intentionally and dragged up and away quickly. Likely with the door shut and window down while the perpetrator reached down and in to shield the incident from view. That Kia dealership has an angry employee who isn’t able to process their emotions in a constructive manner.
