Prices were high when I bought mine a month ago but if the national average hits 7 a gallon and 92 and 93 hits over 8 a gallon i see them getting pretty cheap when dealers can't move them. Prices last week seem to have gone down some around me. The 2016 I originally wanted from the same dealer had 2k shaved off but they didn't have it ready and the 2020 seemed to be a better deal for the price. In reality a 2016 gt at a good price is a steal because you can tune it to be as fast as a 2018 on up and insurance in my area is cheaper for 15 to 17 as well.

Hello; I do not have a considered opinion on prices yet. I have been getting lot of emails from Ford dealers last couple of weeks claiming such things as employee pricing and other discounts.
I recently did a search on the official Ford website for 2025 Mustang GT with a manual trans and was surprised to find several a couple of weeks ago.

This past Monday got a call from a dealer in Knoxville TN about a 2026 GT with a manual. Same place which lured me to them back in Jan or Feb and raised the asking price by over $3000 from what we had agreed to on the phone. This most recent time I told my price again but insisted I get a deal sheet by email first. So far, no call back or deal sheet. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice sham on me.

I suspect the higher gas prices will be critical for those who are overextended with debt or obligations. Before this most recent gas price increase it was reported American's personal debt was well over a trillion $. Perhaps a record. The number of folks behind on car payments is at a large number according to a news story.

Back during the Covid money glut folks were in many cases getting more income than they had when working. An in-law of mine was such a case. She got a lot more pocket money and got use to spending it. Likely the same for many folks.

I suspect car dealers were able to jack up prices in part because folks were freely spending with a result being many are seriously underwater when they try to trade in a vehicle now.

A knee jerk reaction might be some folks will try to trade in a V8 hot rod for something with better fuel economy. Such could devalue the V8 hotrods such as a Mustang v8. There is a caveat to that scenario. That being the possible tariffs on foreign made vehicles and the $8K financing incentive currently in place but only for vehicle mostly made in the USA. Too bad Ford dropped the small cars and sedans a few years back.

Lastly a thing I have noticed in my shopping for a base GT with a manual trans. Such is harder to find than the modles with interesting named packages such as Mach 1, Bullitt, Gt 350, GT 500, Rousch, Dark Horse & likely some I leave out. I understand these are more than just names and the models do have some special features. I do not know haw many units of these packages were sold. If too many the uniqueness will work against them holding value over time.

Last lastly being depends on demand. A lot of folks on here are well to do enough to have an expensive Mustang as a second, third, fourth car. Cars not needed for daily driving, I guess. If enough folks stretched a budget too far to get that special Mustang may now be crunched for cash and the gas prices are the straw which broke the camel to use an old saying.

Enjoy your Mustang, or sell it if you can not effort it. In The Netherlands a liter 98 cost around 2.85€ per liter…..

I find it ironic that several auto manufacturers have recently publicly disconnected or gutted their EV programs just as gas prices have soared.

Gas prices near me are very close to being double what they were at the first of the year even though 30 cents of state gas tax has been suspended.

Even so I don't expect vehicle prices on low mpg cars to plummet. Rather I'd expect to see a shift to higher mpg vehicles without a drop in price of more "luxury" vehicles. Besides, in stock form, none of the S550s get terrible fuel economy.

If your are old enough to remember the 70's gas crisis. After it went on for a while, new cars that got poor gas mileage dealers couldn't sell. That eventually trickled down to used cars. This is no where's as severe as that. Although it doesn't look like it is going to be over soon. I remember waiting on line for hours to get gas. I looked at a 289 shelby cobra for 4k and thought it was to expensive. Foolish. RV prices and companies went out of business. Datsun and toyota benefited and we came up with the pinto, vega, and chevette. I think amc went out of business.

I think a Mustang is an aspirational car. By that I mean it's a car that the buyer wants, not that he or she needs. I think the buyer's purchase isn't driven by an economic analysis. I don't think anyone paying $60,000+ for a car is too worried about CAFE. Just my 2 cents.

People aren't buying these cars for fuel mileage, very litte effect and I believe most people believe this is a short lived phenomenon. The market will adjust...

If you are worried about fuel prices you shouldn't drive a V8
While this is true, I don’t think most people expected gas prices to almost double in such a short time span. Layer that on top of what kind of effect it has other the cost of other goods, we’re getting hit from all sides.

Farmers here are having a hard time stomaching the cost of fertilizer (that cost has risen dramatically), so expect food costs to increase this summer as well. In a vacuum, the rise in gas prices alone I think a fair amount of people can handle. It’s the compounding effect that is hitting folks particularly hard. And it’s not going to get better any time soon

We have been having this problem in the UK since Russia invaded Ukrain. Our food bill is 50% higher than it was before the invasion 4 years ago.
I still say if you are worried about how much you spend on motoring you dont buy a V8 Coupe.

Actually during lock down and right after lockdowns around sept 2020 there were great deals on new and used v8s. I got a really good deal on my camaro. Could have got a new 1ss for 2k more than I bought my 2ss for.

Interesting. When i was shopping I did see a few new 2025s still in stock. The prices are the newer ones are astronomical. Went with a 2020 pp gt premium.

I’m one of them. Wouldn’t have it any other way. But I do also know that there are people that are struggling, whether they are driving a V8 or not.
