I just bought a 2020 Mustang GT with 129,000 miles. It has an MT82 manual transmission, and I want to know the best transmission fluid to keep it running smoothly. I'm not sure if the previous owner changed the transmission fluid since the Carfax report doesn't indicate it, but I saw that the two oil change plugs are marked with a green line, which suggests they did.

Currently, I feel like the shifter moves smoothly in some gears, but other times it feels a bit stiff. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't bother me at all since it's my first manual car, but it's strange that in third gear it feels a little stiff at first, and then when you shift back into third it feels smooth.

I've been looking at BG Syncro Shift II 792, which has good reviews, but I've also seen good reviews of Motul Gear Power FE.

Which one would you recommend? You can also suggest other brands; the more options, the better.

If it helps, I'm from the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean country near Puerto Rico, so the weather isn't usually as cold as in the United States.

I am currently running the BG with the MGC additive and it works pretty good. The MT82 will always have a bit of "notchiness" feeling to it, just the way they are.
BG Products Universal MGC

BG It is pretty good. I was using AMSOIL prior to that, which is my usual go to. BG is a little pricey, but works well. That and a good shifter like a MGW or the like helps a lot.

I used the Motul Multi DCTF, I could easily tell a difference after, shifting felt much smoother. I have not tried anything else but I am sure the BG is good too.

after analysis paralysis on here, I chose bg. can't say I noticed a huge difference but at 11 years and 37k figured it was time to change it.

Welcome to the site! I went with the BG Syncroshift and their additive at 20K miles. There was a noticable improvement in the smoothness of the shifts. Their kit included the pump and the exact amount needed for the S550 MT82, and worked well.

I ran stock for 4 years, switched to BG two years ago, and have debated switching to MOTUL for the last year or so. I do not love the BG fluid.

I replaced my clutch with a McLeod RST and I notice I have a tougher time going in and out of gears sometimes. At this point I wonder if the supposedly smoother feel claimed from MOTUL users is true, and I am getting close to trying it.

I use Royal Purple Synchromax. Currently it's in 3 vehicles of mine. Been using it for the past 20 years or so. One vehicle has over 150K(H3 hummer) and the other just hit 210K(Scion xb) miles. I use to have another that hit 198K miles (Toyota camry) which also ran Royal purple in the transmission.

I switched to BG and felt a noticeable difference in smoothness. I am running a Vengeance Stage 3 clutch and Barton Hybrid 3 shifter as well, so I needed some help with smoothing it out.

Thank you for your feedback. I've seen that BG Syncroshift 75w-75 and 75w-80 oils are available. Which one is correct?

I am not sure which weight it was that I put in. I took a picture of the jug for future reference and it turned out kind of crappy. I don't see any markings on the front of the jug that would indicate the weight, which is kind of odd. I'll reach out to the shop where I bought it and see if they have a record of it.

My mt82 did not have any issues to begin with. Maybe some extra noisiness at times at 3rd. I just kept oem fluid until ~45kish despite having BG fluid change in my garage just because I got a good deal on it one day.

At 45kmiles i started noticing some new pattern of extra effort while 1-2-R gear change on hot weather while maneuvering at parking etc.

So I replaced whatever I had with bg and felt like it was a little better. Not like night and day, but better. And that extra effort gear change was gone.
