A lot of the users I see that were able to do the update, allowed the USB stick to remain in the slot for about 30-60 minutes... even if it said it was done... so it could be that it's done with a module, but has more to do... so I'd say put your USB stick back in and run the car for another 30 minutes or so....
This. The update continues even after the USB activity light ceases to flash. Mine continued for a number of minutes.

I also did the update twice as it didn't seem to actually complete it the first time around. Total was about 15-20 min.

2017 here and I had an issue with the display acting up after the update.

After finally getting FORSCAN to connect (had to uninstall BT drivers then reinstall them) I was able to revert the APIM 7D0-02-01 back to the Mustang GT default startup (running horse). I had heard with 3.0 that Ford did remove the Ford GT splash and theme from the unit and seeing as this was the theme I used when the unit updated to 3.0 I figured it may be the issue.

So FORSCAN to revert back to factory running horse
then I ensured everything functioned which it did
I turned off automatic updates

Then I switched back to the Ford GT theme and baam, no display and when it did work I had a blue Ford Oval on startup and nav map only on home screen. So, I figured out that it was the GT theme and tonight I will be reverting back to 2.2 as I know the theme still worked with that version.

Out of everything I have read on the updates thus far none really appeal to me so I dont mind running 2.2 as it gives me the theme I want on my display...hate that stupid blue with the running horse. I did switch to the GT350R Red and black theme, its cool but kinda feel stupid having the cobra show on startup.

The APIM most likely caches the file from the USB and then once Cached it installs.

Most computers and game consoles do this. Wait 30 minutes for 8GB download and then wait 10 more minutes for the install of that download.

Yup, I agree. For integrity of the update, the engineers certainly decided it is more reliable to actually apply the update from local storage rather than to rely on a USB medium and possible user removing it or something else

Hi guys,

Just to update, I got the newest version installed on my 2016 EB PP non-nav!!! Today I logged into the https://owner.ford.com site and downloaded the file. This time, it was a smaller download (1.11GB to be exact) and still had the same zip file name 'JR3T-14G381-AS'. I extracted the contents and verified the Sync version by opening the 'autoinstall' file with notepad (SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies) before loading them onto my thumb drive. I turned the car on and plugged it in. After 5 five minutes or so, the screen did a restart on its own and I left the car running for about 20-30 minutes until i saw an 'Installation is complete. Update will finish when you restart the car' (not the exact wording). After I saw that, I turned off the car, opened and closed the door, I checked my Sync version and it was 3.0 Build 19205_PRODUCT. I hope this helps! View attachment 401851

2018 GT Premium and just downloaded it. It only took about 15 minutes installing in the car. Turned off then back on and it had changed to 19205. I don't see any differences at all in the update on the Sync. It did give me the new update was installed info so I know it did install. Just curious what it was all for!?

Did it create the .xml file in the SyncMyRide folder? and did you try to upload it?
In the 10 plus times I’ve tried to report the update on 6 different sync 3 equipped cars, not once has it worked. It doesn’t surprise me it doesn’t work now. I don’t even bother anymore.

I updated my 19 F250 today, and the source going back to AM radio on restart issue is still there, as is the intermittent unintelligibly low volume on Bluetooth call issue if you use voice commands. Haven’t driven it at night yet, but I bet the dimming bug and backup cam on blinding brightness bugs are still there too. Ford can’t seem to fix anything or just flat don’t care. I’m not sure why they even issued this update if it didn’t fix anything. The last sync 3 release that actually worked properly was v 2.2.

and put those 8 files in the "MySyncRide" folder.
It's 'SyncMyRide' for starters.
As you see from this archive listing, there are 2 files at the top level and several files inside the 'SyncMyRide/' folder. If you're doing anything more than unzipping the file to the 'root' of the flash drive, you're doing something VERY wrong.

You're using a g'd mac.
After double-clicking the .zip file it should be sufficient to select all contents of that window and drag to the 'Sandisk' drive icon. Macs inject a .DS_xxx (I can't remember the xxx part) file into every (they used to call it a 'resource hook' file) directory and I don't know if the Sync3 software is too dumb not to ignore it. There need to be several files under 'SyncMyRide/'.

At worst go find a Windows or Unix machine and examine the drive under that platform.

All 8 of those files are in the 'SyncMyRide" folder,

I don't see this anywhere ...

I use an app called Clean Eject. I drag and drop the drive over the app to eject. MacOS will then close the drive without adding the hidden 'macos' info files and eject it. Make non-Mac's play nicer with your Mac USB sticks/external drives/etc.

If that does not work, then re-download and try again. I seem to recall having to reformat my USB stick and re-copying the file to get the update to work.

I do everything from a Mac.

because the Mac UI hides it. Open a command-prompt and type 'ls -la' in the USB drive folder.

I don't understand what you mean by 'all 8 of those files'.
There have to be 2 files OUTSIDE the 'SyncMyRide' folder: autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA
