Before I give issue: I have a 2015 automatic with a custom SCT tune (only mod). I recently brought car to dealership for an oil change and to have recall work done. The recall work was related to insulation underneath the car. Before I had brought the car in, I had flashed the ECU back to stock.

Afterwards:

I got car home, and loaded the custom tune back in. I started having an issue with white smoke coming from the rear of the car on harder launches. At first I thought I was doing a sick burnout, but nope, just smoke. I asked my tuner what his thoughts were, and he was doubtful tune was at issue here. I tended to agree, since no issues prior six months plus. I went ahead and flashed back to stock again, and did some more hard launches, got more white and even some black smoke. Kind of scary.

Here is interesting part. I took car up to dealer. They looked it over and said they did some update to the ECU, and to see if this helps resolve the issue. I said I will let them know. I have not had a chance to fully check if it's still doing it, but on the ride home, it did not smoke. I will leave stock for now, check, and if all is well, will flash custom tune back in.

Does anyone else have any experience with this kind of thing happening? If Ford indeed updates the ECU, shouldn't the strategy code change?

So took it out for a test drive, and for sure, no more smoke on hard launches. Dealership indeed did something, just not sure what exactly. Could be they did an update on the ECU, or just did a reset of it. Will load the custom tune back in soon since already verified the strategy is the same, and see how that goes.

There is a service bulletin released by ford in December regarding a large number of ecoboost mustang smoking due to a defective part the causes oil to burn something like that. I got my car back today they changed the part and part of the service bulletin they had to update the ecu. The car doesn't smoke anymore on idle.

So they're finally fixing the PCV problem and updating the ECU? I may give the dealership a call tomorrow and see.

I've been looking for it. I can't find it anywhere. I'm gonna call the dealer in the morning. But you shouldn't let it hold you back from a downpipe. Just gut the PCV and get a UPR dual valve cc.

TSB 15-0192 - basic rundown - check for a barcode (old) or qr code (new), if it has the older barcode replace the crankcase vent oil separator (part thats under the intake on the side of the block) and reprogram the PCM.

View attachment tsb15-0192.pdf

edit: Ford refers to the new part as "high flow" crankcase vent oil separator.

I doubt that any dealers would give you a hard time over that, its not a major mod or anything, and wouldn't add any extra time to the job for the tech.

Mine doesnt smoke yet. If I have the QR code one, can I just go in to get it changed and get PCM updated?

Like will they sit and see if it would cause blue smoke right in front of their eyes to replace or just take my word for it if I tell them I've seen it smoking?

if you had recall for heat then they more then likely re-tuned your car so the random misfire CEL didn't come on

Ya they have to verify the problem first, and if you have the new style qr code, you already have the updated part and software so your car shouldn't smoke anyway.

This update is different, the IDS specifically asks if it has the updated part when the tech goes to flash the PCM.

This is great info, thanks for the TSB. I had the heatshield recall done, I'll have to check if this was done to my car. I have no smoke yet.
