Quick question for you new GT350 owners: flat-plane V8s have been avoided due to high(er) vibrations levels than bent-crank V8s.

So, just how much higher is the vibration levels compared to, say, a regular 5.0? Is it noticeably buzzier? Four-banger level thrashy? Or only a bit rougher than a regular V8?

NOT that it really matters given what a stupendous motor this is otherwise, just kind of curious from a technical standpoint (and maybe being a turbine-smooth I6 M3 owner spoiling me in the NVH realm).

Just can't get enuff!
At the higher RPM's there is noticeable vibrations & harmonics in play... you'll clearly feel and realize this at the track, i.e. HPDEs, where the higher range of RPM's are continuously sustained. So far I think FP did a good job in the development... no loose parts or rattles in my cabin but I do feel the vibrations. Feels leery/strange in the beginning so it's something different to get accustomed to.

It's a very even vibration. Something akin to what the vibrator in your phone produces. I notice it most in the gear shifter, but that's really about it. From a cockpit standpoint, most people aren't likely to notice any difference.

It's honestly not that significant, I only notice it in the shifter at higher RPM's. For comparison, my Ferrari was significantly worse through the cabin/shifter but it's just part of the character.

but with the appropriate engine mounts and firewall you wont tell the difference in 5.0 and 5.2

Whatever I need
I first read about the vibration from the recent C&D issue comparing the GT350 to a Z51 'Vette.

Since the GT350 has a two stage exhaust, part of their experience was no doubt influenced by the un-muffled exhaust rasp. I can attest to this with some of my 180 degree V8 hot-rods but its mostly heard and not felt. Particulariy with my Lightning that has stage 2 cams and 14 psi of boost with a full Bassani exhaust that sounds very belligerent, however the (balanced by JLR) .020 over 5.4 motor feels glass smooth through its rev-range. However, I have 2 other hot short deck SBF's with poly motor mounts and I feel a very low frequency vibe.

Mine produces a pretty significant chatter, even at lower rpms - seems to go away as I accelerate. The comments have me thinking about going to the dealer to see if it's normal...

It's like having two typical large displacement 4 cylinder engines attached together. You've heard the comments that 4 cylinder engines have a FPC? Well, they do. They also have similar vibrations. Not a big deal. The vibration is not unusual at all; mostly even mentioning it is something I would associate with a troll more so than any genuine concern or actual issue.

I think it vibrates more than a Coyote, and I would expect it to. But it seems higher quality than most 4 cylinder engines I remember. I owned a Fiesta and that was really smooth, but had a couple Jap cars back in the 90s that were pretty buzzy.

With the Voodoo engine this is not exactly true. It would be true if we were talking about a Ferrari FPC. A typical inline-4 cylinder is arranged Up-Down-Down-Up, with a FPC V8 being Up-Down-Down-Up-Down-Down-Up.

The Voodoo is arranged Up-Down-Up-Down-Up-Down-Up-Down.

It'd be more comparable if you were talking about a straight-8. But being arranged into a V creates forces on two planes instead of one, which would lead to more vibration.

God forbid 8 massive pistons moving up and down create some vibration.

A 6 speed F430 - not too often you see those either.

Yup - I was shopping 360's last summer and the 6speed on both the 360 and 430 would fetch almost twice the price of an F1 - absurdly rare on the 430.
