... I owned an F150 Ecoturd for a little over 3 months then traded it in for m Raptor...
you wouldn't be mocking Eco if it was 5.0 Eco. F150 2.7 Eco puts out near the same torque as the 5.0. And 3.7 Eco > 5.0. It's just that the F150 is a heavy dog. I am guessing you had crew cab? That's the heaviest option, and the most popular.

How old is OP ? If he is young, he needs to call his insurance agent and get quotes for the different engines. Young guys also have to weigh what's better, extra cool car, or extra savings and investments. There is a large price jump from V6->V8, and Ford makes the big bucks on an up-sell. Best case is to own both Ford (stock) and Ford Mustang GT. Dividends pay for your gas. :ford:

Yes with 3 kids I have to have 4 doors. We traded my wife's paid for '14 Explorer in on her Raptor because it has more room for the kids. She never used the 3rd row it's useless back there. The only thing I liked about the Eco was the BOV's I put in and peoples reaction to an F150 blowing off in traffic LOL but it was under powered and got no where near the MPG that was claimed. And I'll smoke a 2.7 or 3.7 all day in my Raptor until I hit the speed limiter at 105 :tsk: But it was never intended to be a drag truck in the first place. Off Road it will dominate any of them in 4x4 trim.

The next time I'll own an Eco engine it will be the 5.0 Eco in a Raptor so I hope it comes to fruition...

So much :headbonk:
The 3.5 ecoboost was not underpowered. Stock it's quick for a truck. Tuned its quick for a car. A 3.5 ecoboost destroys the 6.2l Raptor. The Raptor is is a heavy truck which is why it loses many drag races to other trucks. It was never intended to have fast straight line acceleration. The MPG is true but not any worse than the 6.2l. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2.7l ecoboost F-150 is faster than the Rapter.

there would be some irony is a 5.0 Eco, as deploying the term Eco implies frugal. But 5.0 Eco would be awesome.

As for the F150, 2.7 Eco makes 325hp. Under-powered is relative. My old truck made 200hp. I looked up the specs on your truck : 6.2L V8, 411 hp. Go big or go home!

I bet the guys on here running S/C 5.0 think the base 5.0 is under-powered

Hence your screen name? At least you have what you want now. I did the same thing. I owned an F150 Ecoturd for a little over 3 months then traded it in for m Raptor... Live and learn I guess. I'm sure everyone here has owned a car at one point that they wished they didn't buy. :headbonk:
First i wanted the V6 but couldn't get it in premium trim so i bought the EB premium with PP. Since i never owned a turbo before i thought i would be good with it. I really missed the V8 sound and didn't like any of the after market exhausts for the EB so i gave up on it and traded for the GT. After getting my Corsa Extreme's i've got the excellent V8 sound i'm looking for. Wish i had gotten it from the beginning and didn't waste time with the EB from the start. Oh well live and learn. Other than the sound of the exhaust the EB was a nice car. Nothing bad to say about it except the sound of the exhaust.

@Marino We also happen to have a '12 Platinum 3.5 eco in the family and have tested this theory and I walk it every time. The turbo lag on those is laughable and I'm 5 cars ahead before he gets going. Like I said though once I hit the speed limiter he passes me but the Raptor pulls all the way to that point. Yes a tuned eco would be a different story but my Raptor tuned would turn the tables once again. Getting rid of the speed limiter and upping the power a bit opens it right up. I know someone with a 2.7 we'll have to try that one out as well. From what he said about it though I highly doubt the outcome would be any different. It's like any other 4T it looses steam pretty quick. It's more for towing just like the 3.5 The 3.5 I had would tow a lot as well but towing the same 3500lb dump trailer with the same load of 10yds of mulch behind both trucks the Raptor tows it much much better. With the 3.5 yes it will tow it but boy do you know it's back there! The Raptor pulls it smoother and you don't feel it near as much. But the Raptor just like an eco vs GT is a lot more expensive so you'd expect it.

The 6.2 MPG is WAY worse than any of the Eco's but that's not the reason I got rid of my Eco. I don't care about the MPG's I just want the power. You pay to play. Best I've ever got from mine or my wife's Raptor is 13.8 babying it on the interstate on a trip. Mine sits around 9.5 around here.

Being an old guy I remember test driving a new SVO back in 84 or 85.... I wanted one but as a HS/College student I couldn't swing a new car note. Fast forward to 2015 and the EBM... I was pretty sure that's what I wanted but I test drove a GT just to make sure! I really liked it fast, sounded good, etc... I kept looking over at the sticker and seeing $41k and just couldn't see it for me and my money! I went with the EB so now I have my SVO and I love it.

dumping an "Ecoturd" ain't cheap:

$27k

$50k

oh wait, it's back to an "Ecoturd" :

The new F-150 Raptor won’t go on sale until fall 2016, but with a twin-turbo V-6 making more than 500 hp, it should prove worth the wait.

It's all preference...for me, I knew if I was going to get a sports car, I was not going to consider a 4 or 6 cylinder...It was V8 or nothing.

No "ragrets" since

I wouldn't even consider buying a mustang if it weren't a v8. And I love my mustang!

Sound advice... get what you can afford, and that includes insurance as well as car payments. I had a friend that got his first real job and proceeded to buy more car than he could afford... all he ever did was wash and wax the car because he didn't have the money for gas :frusty:

Boosted launch is your friend on an 3.5 Eco.

Yes it will be an Eco V6 for the '17 MY BUT in '18 it should be offered in a respectable V8 Eco which like I stated before I WILL buy. If it doesn't come out I'll get a Diesel F250. I won't buy another 6 500hp or not it will still sound like shit...
