Mine will be in my garage or the garage at work, which is gated. SO if I see one of my co-workers with CF wheels on their non-R car, I'll know what's up!

I had the (presumably blasphemous) thought of immediately taking off the CF wheels and Cup 2 tires and selling them. How much could one get for brand new CF wheels/C2 tires? Dont know the answer, but its gotta be close to the price delta between a 350 and the R. Anyone ponder that?

Isn't that a conflict in your thinking? If your going to track the car, why would you even consider removing the CF wheels and loose that advantage for the track? Those wheels are 90% of the advantage of buying an R. You might as well go with a base GT350 for the track under those conditions.

The markup on the R is probably the biggest reason why

You also have to consider that the R can't be your daily, especially during winter and summer.

I live in southern cali, weather is great year-round, but I couldn't survive without AC during summer.

Both are a thing of beauty!

You could always get a 350 and get the forged 6GR wheels from Paul at Need4SpeedMotors for fraction of the cost of those carbon wheels. The wings are available too. I am probably going to do just that.

Really? So you don't think there's a car out there that would be better/more enjoyable than what you already have, but you've decided not to buy it? Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari?

I'm assuming he means financially? I mean there is such a big price difference between the R and non-R that it's just not as simple as saying "which would you prefer". Not even bringing up the insane dealer markups on the super limited R version.

Hell, my GT was my "2nd Choice" to a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta but that Ferrari was a little out of my reach!

I'd love to have an R, or something even more expensive and capable, but the GT350 is already stretching me a lot financially. However, I think it's probably the one chance I will have to own a flat plane crank V8. I think the GT350 is awesome and I'm thrilled to have it. Just a great car - hot rodded Mustang is perfect for me and hot rodded in the way I would do it - for road course work. I have zero regrets.

If I were able to buy the R I would have. Even with a bigger mark up in price. I looked at many dealers in my area (about 10) and none of them were getting a R. It was hard enough to get a GT350 period with many people wanting one and the small allocation. I was lucky enough to win the Lottery draw out of 30+ people. I love the track pack that I have, which is magnetic with black OTT stripes. My only thoughts are sometimes I wish I would of seen a magnetic with the black roof and black stripes on the hood and trunk and I sometimes wish I went my normal choice which is white. I like white and that was my first choice no stripes and a black roof. Wish I chose that color combo. But I do love what I have. No complaints. My main reason for wanting a R was for R-arity. I didn't want a radio or AC. I also don't want the rear seat. My plans for my track pack are to remove the rear seat and to install the R seat delete. And I'll swap wheels also. The radio and AC I'll keep just because it's already there.

People can like two different things. If one isn't available, then it helps the decision making process. A Challenger Hellcat was my first choice, that fell through and the GT350 was the alternate choice. Not a bad alternative.

If I could have sourced an R for 5k over I would have done it, but I didn't start my search early enough for those deals and thus am content with my track pack car, but will certainly monitor the 2017 market and see if any mint used ones pop up

GT Dave: My question (to sell CF take offs and Cup 2s) is perhaps rhetorical. But for those who might have chosen an R, but the money was the issue, this is one way to deal with the money.

Regarding the weight advantage, the CF wheels are about half the total. However, the aluminum wheels I ordered from this forum are supposed to be 23 pounds vs 16 for CF. So the actual reduction of weight loss is about half. (Ford seems to have a high baseline for wheel weights.) In other words, of the ~100 pounds of weight reduction, with aluminum wheels, I should still see ~75 pounds weight reduction.

Just offering a devil's advocate idea for those wondering whether they bought the right model. I know my intended use is not the norm (just track use), I am sure everyone with any GT350 model will love it on the street and track.:ford:

Reasons I will never regret not buying an R

1. Out of my budget, so never considered.
2. If it was in budget at MSRP, I would have considered a lot of other new and use sports cars like a used GTR

3. Considering the ADM, I would never pay ADM, so again a lot of other sports cars to consider.

I am right we're need to be at just under MSRP for a Tech GT350.

I've had my GT350 for about a month.. when I saw the comparisons to the R prior to delivery I didn't necessarily regret my purchase, but I did wish I could have an R.

After a month now I have no regrets. I use mine 2-3 days a week, and I couldn't imagine how my mind would race over the carbon fiber wheels being scratched or stolen. The conveniences you lose in a base R would be annoying, and I live nowhere near a track to take advantage of the performance.

Even the wheels on the GT350 I love, it blends well with the wider look. (Maybe I need to see an R in person) If theres an update in a few years I may move to an R, but for now I absolutely adore my GT350 as it is.

Interesting that you asked if anyone wished they had gone with an R model instead of a GT350 and then admitted that you wished you had gone with an R model over a base GT350 and go on say you have no regrets without even having driven the R model.

How can you have no regrets when you have not even seen an R model let alone drive the R model?

I can tell you there is obviously a difference in performance between the two cars and as we all know in the purchase price as well so that is all subjective.

If your mind is racing over having the carbon fiber wheels scratched or stolen you obviously have made the right decision to go with the GT350.

Great to hear that you adore your GT350 and if you get a chance to drive an R model I suggest that after you drive the R model you will be motivated to move over to an R model in future years of course all subject to being a pure Shelby enthusiast and the purchase price at the time.

I was asking for an R when I placed my order back in August, but was told I couldn't have it. That dealership has allocation for 10+ non R but only one R, and the owner of the dealership is getting it. Guess I can't really fight that. I was also told that they had allocation of one Ford GT years back and the owner claimed it too!
