Ceramic Coating headers?

I am trying to find some good articles on this and personally not liking what I see so far. It seems the coating is just for looks? I am trying to find out if there is any other benefits. I figured maybe the coating would help contain the heat? I remember with my 2011 5.0 with Kooks headers, the engine bay would get much hotter than it did with stock. So is it just looks or does it retain some of that heat or anything else? Thanks.

I didn't coat mine, but it definitely helps with keeping the pipes cool.

I always have aftermarket headers for my STIs and EVOs coated through Swain Tech. Sometimes I wish that I would have had my Kooks headers coated. However, on my STI, I accidentally touched my header while under the car and after a long drive. Didn't even get burned due to the coating.

Obviously I have not completely decided on the size and with or without cats just yet hahaha.

Also, here are some pictures of the coating. These are Camaro Headers, but you get the idea what you get with Kooks.


Now here is the plain stainless, uncoated version of these headers. Uncoated Stainless will not rust, but it will turn bronze. All Kooks stainless products come "mill finish"-

Kooks High flow Catted mid pipes. They are VERY high flow...enough so you can see light through them!

Catted and Off Road Mid Pipes Side by side. Unlike some brands, Kooks mid pipes do have rear O2 sensor bungs so you can retain ALL of your factory O2 sensors. They are on the off road mid pipes also, the pipe is just turned in a way that hides them.

Lastly, the hardware kit with bolts, gaskets, and O2 extensions. Everything needed to complete the install!

Kind of a no brainer these days, I wish CC was readily available back 30 some years ago when I was racing. Would have gone that route instead of messin with header wrap.

Yup, that's what I'd do...ceramic coat & header wrap.

Yeah, I like the idea of the coat, not so much the wrap. I do plenty car shows, track the car maybe a few times a year and that is just for fun. As long as the coat keeps it semi cool as opposed to nothing, I am good with that. Now just need to know what this deal is that is too good to pass up!

Ceramic is good, header wrap is better, and both is better yet.

Header wrap on a street driven car is not a good idea. It holds moisture and causes rot. Probably not an issue with stainless headers but steel even with ceramic coating will rust prematurely.
