drive it how it will help you decide which one is best for you but if you think that gives you some kind of right to break traffic laws or put a passenger (sales person) in danger then you have another thing coming.

I am sure the mustang brings plenty of tire kicker, joy riding traffic by the dealerships and the sales person has no idea if you are mario andretti or paul walker so don't assume they are going to trust your mad skilz.....

best thing you can do is come to a clear open traffic free area and simply say, "Do you mind if I give it a little throttle here?" Dont just get it sideways or jam the brakes to the floorboard to "test the 6 pistons."

Basically, be polite. You will not feel the difference between a PP and Base on a test drive. Set your expectations. A test drive is to compare the Accord and the Camry, not the GT350 and the Track package.....

I bought my Mustang sight unseen and test drive unseen. It isn't "that" necessary. Cars today all drive pretty good. It is easy to tell the difference between a SRA and IRS in normal driving conditions.

No need to feel weird about test drives months before you plan to buy. Think to yourself that you need to make the right decision instead. Be respectful and let the salesman know you plan on driving other cars for a comparison. It would suck to find out after you buy that it really wasn't what you really wanted. I've bought several new cars and some with too short of a test drive that didn't reveal uncomfortable seats.

Personally, I feel weird about doing that..at this point anyway. I did that with a WRX, test it at a dealer before I was really planning to buy, and this time around I'd want to test the 15 with and without the PP as well as a Camaro or two. It's not testing that I hesitate to do it's knowing I have no intention to buy one any times soon. Wouldn't that piss a dealer off?...Then when I go back I don't get the time of day.

Plus when testing, they seem to flip out if you hit the throttle at all. Do these cars come with an implied license to do a bit more than drive around the block? Seems like I wouldn't notice much comparing the PP to non-PP rolling around town in first gear.

What should the attitude and approach be when testing these?

Thanks

Just be upfront with the salesman.. tell him you're interested in the car but you're not looking to buy today. Tell him you're cross shopping vs competitors and then tell him what other models you're looking at. If you're knowledgeable in the competition (also helps if you have written quotes/offers from other dealers on hand), they will do their best to try to convince you to purchase from them including encouraging you to test drive their vehicles.

Every dealer I went to threw me the keys to whatever I wanted to look at and encouraged me to take it for a spin.

From my test drive experiences before buying, i test drove 4 and all 4 times i made sure i floored it. Had 1 sales guy tell me to slow down in the GT cause i was in a neighborhood and i had their license plate on the car. Not 1 time did i ask for the sales guys permission. I think the correct way would be to tell the sales guy to take you to an area that you are "allowed" to let lose

They need to sell the car to you. Enjoy the test drives, spin some tires if you must. Just don't buy the same exact car if you do rag on it lol
A couple of our salesmen got into an accident because of this. Just please be mindful if you wanna test out the power of the Mustang.

As far as the PP vs the Non PP. It really depends on what you use it for. If you're not seeing much track time and you're doing more DD the PP is a bit much to drive around all the time. I'm not saying it's a bad DD but it does get cumbersome after awhile. The non PP Mustang is the definition of a GT car while the PP is much more of a sports car. Also as long as you tell your salesperson that you're going to buy from him when you're ready to buy your Mustang I'm sure he won't mind driving you in a couple of different Mustangs. The worst part about being in sales was when a customer you helped out comes back and buys a car from one of his colleagues or telling him you bought from another store.

I had a 14 GT Premium with 3.55 gears and recently upgraded to my 2015 PP GT. I really liked my 14 but driving a performance pack 15 really sealed my 14s fate lol. I opted to go with the performance pack and cloth recaros over getting a premium non-pp car. The 15 is a far superior car in pretty much every way IMO. The only thing I miss from my 14 (occassionally) is the SRA due to its rawness. If it was just a weekend car, I might have looked to get a track pkg 14 but mine is a daily and the IRS/brakes are phenomenal.

Transmission-My 14 and 15 have only had CAI/AxleBack exhaust/wheels/a few cosmetic mods, so the wear on them was probably somewhat normal but I have had zero issues. My 14 had 33,000 miles when traded in and my 15 is at 7k right now (knocks on wood). Also, both cars have been driven relatively hard or spirited so it's not like I drive like a grandma.

PP vs non PP.....Drive each! Once I did, my decision was made-the brakes alone on the PP were worth it to me. Many argue that the Performance Pack suspension etc isn't as good as you could get aftermarket, but for someone like me it was nice buying something off the lot with the setup it has especially because once again it's a daily and not a dedicated track car. People also say the 6 piston brembos don't make much of a difference but I call BS on that haha. Due to my car being a daily I also was originally concerned with the 3.73 gears, but they aren't that bad. Stop and go isn't anymore annoying....I just find myself starting in 2nd a lot more often and it just comes natural now. Highway I get 25/26 when babying it and combined lifetime mileage and I'm around 18/19 for economy. Real world, my fuel economy with all the highway/city stop and go/all the WOT accelerations ends up between 17 and mid 19s per gallon. IMO it's a shame to get this car without the PP unless you plan on going mod crazy/FI, but to each their own!

PS-My only knock on the PP is the damn 30 spoke wheels that are a major PITA to clean :headbonk:
Dude I think you're 100% spot on with everything you said. Well done

Seems fine as my DD
As I said it's not a bad DD. The roads around where I live and work are pretty terrible so the suspension on the PP and the lower profile tires makes the ride rougher. I guess you just gotta get used to it.

Not bad?? I was hoping for more of a...most fun you can have with your clothes on...kinda experience.

Saw one in traffic today as I was on the exit ramp. I actually considered pulling over just to watch it go by. :)

I guess I've gotten lucky and never had any salesman flip on me. When looking at 13/14s I barely knew how to drive a manual (told the salesman that) and he insisted I drive and threw me in a brand new one and away we went. I test drove over a dozen different camaros/mustangs and not once did any of the salesman even blink when I got on it. When looking at 15s, all it took was driving up in my clean 14 and each time and even before pricing etc was discussed they took a copy of my license and handed me the keys. I was surprised not once did they even act interested in going with me lol. Each one also encouraged me to take it to the nearest highway and see what I thought. I think as long you're respectful and walk in knowing what you're doing (to some degree without being cocky) you'll be fine. I also try to find someone who actually is a Mustang person (or car guy at least) when I walk into a dealer and I think that helps (although it isn't always easy to do).

See I'll be rolling up in an 06 Legacy possibly with my wife and 4 year old son...maybe alone though. So that'll obviously give a different impression than you did.

When shopping for daily drivers I'm usually cordial but not overly courteous if the salesman acts stereotypical. Otherwise I pretty much mirror their attitude.

You mentioned trying to find a Mustang person. I did that with other brands...asking who knew the most about the car and maybe owned one. Seems like a good idea with this car as well so I don't get the newbie that'll pop a blood vessel when faced with different questions or some throttle.

Thanks

Just got some bad news from my boss about a promotion of sorts I was counting on (due to someone else not retiring as expected) so it looks like my purchase won't happen until around this time next year. :(

Certainly plenty of time for testing and homework now.
