I am curious. Ford stopped building the R, due to tires issues if they get to cold.
Mine is sitting outside at rail head, waiting for shipping. What are the odds of tires being damaged due to the cold? It is going below zero at night.
Can it do damage, I can't see when it arrives?
I don't believe they should be stored in freezing weather.

I don't know exactly on the Michelin's but I know when we had a tire test at Circuit of the America's a few years ago and it was in the 30's Pirelli told us (these are slicks) to be very careful with the tires and do not drop them if they had been outside and for the first few laps to take it easy on the cars to get temps up with them.

I do know what they look like if damage does occur and the side walls on the tires just plain crack. So it isn't a hidden damage that is going to happen, you will know it.

I don't think I would leave them outside for extended periods of time and for sure don't go slamming the car over bumps but if it had to move you would be ok, at least we were with the race cars.

Thanks and I agree, my garage is heated, so no issues.
the issue is its sitting in flat rock, I presume outside at rail yard.
In these conditions.

There are numerous postings on the net about this problem for Michelin and all the others. I was a bit incredulous when I first heard it, but looked around and it is an industry wide problem.

Since I am ordering an R and plan to mostly track it, I was very concerned. This is the only reason I am willing to wait until Spring for mine. (Actually, I'm lying, I can't stand the waiting. :headbonk: )

Also why I bought the project 6GR set of aluminum wheels and ordering some Hoosiers. :headbang:

Edit: Using Hoosiers not because they won't crack, but because I know I will burn them up before the next cold season.

So, dealer called today and now the car has moved and it is in Illinois and might be here next week? So I guess not everything is shut down. I bet they are 'fixing' the completed cars and shipping those and it was probably one of the cars that needed the shields.

Have you called Ford Performance to confirm? My dealer told me mine shipped on 9 December and would take about 9 days to reach Benicia, CA. Ford Performance says the car is awaiting shipping the last time I talked to them on 22 December

It likely shipped before the plant shutdown. Mine was on rail for 10 days and almost 4 days of that it took to get from Flat Rock to Chicago.

My backup plan vehicle was ordered June 1st, built Dec 8th, loaded on railcar ETTX852394 on Dec 18th. It's a Triple Yellow, technology package with OTT stripes with no black roof. Final destination before being unloaded for truck transport is a railyard/depot in Mesquite Texas (just outside Dallas). I had tracked it via phone tracking to a point just inside the Texas border on Dec 24th. It had stopped for Christmas about 150 miles away. It started moving again yesterday morning. I was bored so we headed out to find it. The train was stopped in Big Sandy, TX when we found it. It was parked and we're getting out to walk down beside it as it started rolling. Here's a shot of the right side.

Here's a picture of the left side of the railcar out the window at around 60mph. It did make it to Mesquite yesterday evening, Hopefully will be unloaded and delivered next week.

That is very cool!

Wonder how long it takes the train to get here and how many stops they do along the way. Could get mine this week if it has in fact shipped.

I think Ford is going to call me tomorrow with an update. My guess is that it was setting there for that heat shield recall/fix

Mine was shipped directly from Flat Rock to my dealer in Mississauga (just outside Toronto, Ontario) on a Cassens Transport truck with no transfer in between. It was shipped on the most far back spot on the lower deck, facing the rear as it should. 9.4 km (6 miles) on the odometer when I picked it up.
