I assumed my question had been addressed - specifically, what exhaust system improves the sound of the 302 while maintaining a civilized sound environment during normal daily driving? After reading all the comments I'm still unclear. Is it the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle Back? The Magnaflow Street Catback? Ford Racing Sport or Roush Axlebacks? My objective is simply improve the current sound without having to listen to my wife complain about abusive noise (droning). I'm hoping there may be a few other senior citizen gearheads out there that might have the right advice so I don't make a $1200 mistake..
As always thanks for the direction.

Check out the Solo Mach XV system. Solo products all have no drone and the Mach is the quietest one they offer, while maintaining that great american muscle sound.

I went with a custom exhaust. Ford Racing X-pipe and replaced the stock mufflers with Magnaflow Mufflers (Part#11226). Very pleased with the sound. No drone. I got the idea from another forum member.

If you want good noise but very civilized just get an x or h pipe.

Installed my XV today and the wife and I went to dinner tonight. Her words when throwing a rev under an overpass: That sounds badass

Cruising is very tame though. Almost like sound on demand. Other exhaust are similar though in that regard. Just have to find what sounds good to you.

I'm between Corsa and Magnaflow. Hearing Corsa today in person has a higher pitch exotic sound that I didn't realize I'd really like. Listening to videos I really like how deep the Magnaflow sounds.

Roush and leave the resonator. No drone. Barks when you get on it. Sounds great at idle. If you look at the vendor sites like American Muscle, CJ Pony, etc. the Roush has more reviews posted than any other brand and all are positive.

I am happy with my borla touring....it is very tame, but sounds good. If My neighbors make me mad, I will swap the resonator for an h pipe

You should clarify "improves the sound". For guys like you and me, I think your looking for that deep muscle car sound we remember in the pony wars of '69-'71. Some of these younger guys quantify louder as better. Those who prefer the Roushes are just bat shit crazy if they think that sounds good. It's just loud and raspy. Louder is NOT better. Take a look at the Steeda's. Don't own 'em (yet), but I've listened to a ton of YouTube vids on my home theater system and that comes closest to the muscle cars of old.

I would go stainless works catless headers, H pipe and the 3" retro chambered exhaust... Get the LMF version and show her who's "Boss"
No I'm kidding! Personally just start with res delete?
