Why cant we buy our own turbos and purchase the manifold separately? And im just curious if it really cost that much to upgrade the turbocould someone break down the price cause a 5858 is only around 1.6k so where does the rest of the 3k go?

You need the exhaust manifold adapter, the revised intake system, revised downpipe, revised charge air tubing, and the oil/coolant feed and drain lines. These are just to properly hook up the turbo. You also might need a revised coolant bypass, as it goes right through that region as well. Then you need a tune file, etc etc.

You're looking for a tuner kit. I'm pretty sure the only available kits are turn-key at the moment.

A tuner kit is typically cheaper, but those are really only good if you have somewhere to tune it yourself or know someone who can. At the end of the day, you'll see similar pricing for a tuner kit or turnkey kit to get it up and running.

$4-5k will probably be the norm unless you get an upgrade to the stock turbo, like the Vargas stage 1. Then you can keep the majority of components.

Good luck, the MAP kit is the most affordable turbo kit on the market. The chances of you making it as nice, and as cheap is low.

Ball Bearing Turbo - $1500
Downpipe - $400.00
Manifold - $400.00
Oil Lines - $100.00
Coolant Lines - $20.00
External Wastegate - $350.00
Intake - $250.00
Charge Pipe - $150.00
Blow Off Valve - $225.00
Couplers - $50.00

That is just parts, and I shot for the upper end of pricing. That alone is $3445.00, so that difference is labor and shipping.

We put a lot of effort into keeping costs down on our turbo kit. It would be easy to save a few hundred bucks by using a cheaper turbo, but a cheap turbo hurts performance in other areas, too. A cheap, big turbo is just no fun on a street car. Are you willing to give up quick spool and easy drivability to gain extra top end power?

At FFTEC Motorsports we've used a huge variety of turbos on a large variety of cars, so we know exactly how each turbo performs. Even my personal car went through 5 turbo swaps one year to test the differences. Sometimes the differences are small, sometimes they're obvious. Overall I'm very happy with the performance of the EFR series of turbos. They're a big step up in quality over the stock turbo, provide excellent spoolup with a dual ceramic ball bearing center section, use high efficiency billet compressor wheels paired with low inertia Gamma-Ti turbine wheels, and offer big power gains. IMHO it's the best turbo upgrade available for the price.

Since our turbo kits also require a different downpipe and different intake, plan ahead when building your car so you don't have to buy twice. Think ahead and save a few bucks. If you do it right you'll only have to do it once.

David@FFtec, is the turbo you use in your kits a twin scroll turbo like the stock turbo is?

how much is your kit?
pricing TBD
keep an eye out for a thread from Alex @ American Muscle
only reason this has taken a little longer than some kits is the cast manifold process. We wanted to do it right the first time!

coming soon
