All the pictures I've seen of Sync 3 include navigation. What does the interface look like without that option?

Quite a bit useless spaces. Wish there was more customization.

Yeah the only useful part about the home screen is the compass. I usually just keep it on the audio tab.
Would be nice if they would show more details on the home screen like climate control.

I got to say not having seen the Sync 3 yet the Sync 2 or whatever they call it on the 2015 Stang is a lot prettier. My two cents.

Ya, the UI on Sync3 is pretty plain. The hardware is much better. I was going to hold back getting a 2015 because of Sync3. At the end of the day, I am happy with my 2015. I am used to Sync2 since I had it in my ST for a couple of years and never really had much problems with it.

Sync 3 is definitely an improvement over the previous version. The UI is much smoother and the screen is very responsive, entering an address into Nav is no longer a cumbersome task. I agree on the plain looks but I prefer it and the screen isn't a fingerprint magnet and I like how it turns into a dark mode at night causing no glare.

The main goal of Sync 3 wasn't necessarily to improve the look of the UI; MyFord Touch (Sync Gen 2) looked quite good with it's quadrant display. The goal was to improve the speed, reliability, and usability of the system.

As anyone who has used Sync Gen 2 can attest to, it's slow, has some glitches, and requires a very deliberate press of the screen to operate. In other words, the opposite of a modern smart phone. It would have been considered more than adequate when compared with the last generation of smart phones and in-vehicle navigation systems, but it's quite dated by today's standards. Hence the reason that Sync 3 was developed.

The main benefits of the new system include a much faster processor, a new touchscreen, and the ability to swipe menus side to side. It eliminates a lot of the frustration that plagued Sync 2, which was an otherwise relatively good system.

While everything FordTechOne said is correct, the major reason for the UI look and feel is to follow industry standards being developed for ICE systems (in car entertainment). Google Auto has similar design ques for the exact same reason. I believe Apple CarPlay does as well.

Personally, I think the new UI is drastically better than Sync 2 was but then again I also design user interfaces, and for me the goal is simplicity and responsiveness rather than flair. Sync 3 has accomplished both.

Stability also seems better, but the applink is quite buggy with Spotify at times. Minor bluetooth niggles as well, but that stuff is so complicated it could literally be anything. Software, either Ford, Google OR Spotify, it could be drivers so bluetooth on either ford or googles side, it could be my phone, so motorola could be at fault.

This stuff is so complicated -- one reason I am a huge advocate of Google and Apple designing these headless systems for auto OEMS -- literally EVERYONE wins, except maybe those without an android or ios phone, but they dont get left behind they just get to live with the same shlop cars have had on average.

I don't mind the design of the UI too badly, it looks functional and visible. What is a little frustrating to me is that Ford is apparently using a single color scheme across all their models and interior colors, with no ability to customize it.

It is kind of silly that Ford gives me the option to order a car in Competition Orange, and to customize through the instrument cluster the color of things like the illuminated Mustang logo in the door sill plates, but that the gigantic LCD right in the middle of my dashboard is stuck with this bland, generic monochrome whitish blue interface - the same as Ford ships in every other car - which can't have its color altered at all.

How hard would it be to use some kind of accent color in the interface that the user could choose through the existing MyColor system? I don't have my car yet (hoping for Dec 11!) but as I recall, you can actually choose the MyColor color from within Sync 3 already, right?

Just the capacitive over resistive is worth the update :)

I'm a 25+ year developer/architect, so I tend to scrutinize tech pretty carefully, and I like it quite a bit, it's fast, reasonable intuitive, and has worked great with both my iP6S+ and a 16GB USB thumb drive (for music).

Still, like the folks above, I'd love a little customization - it would be so simple to implement some color and/or background options.

Ultimately I'd love a fully native Car Play experience, and I understand that's in the pipeline, but I'd take some small, incremental user experience tweaks in the interim. :)

Carplay would definitely be perfect for the massive touch screen. Porting map from the phone is pretty much the new thing. Nobody buys cars with navigation anymore because data plans are so cheap now.

This is not true, plenty of people buy cars with Nav, I did. Problem with using Nav on a cell phone is when you travel through areas with no service or crappy "edge"/2g your phone is searching for signal and your Nav stops working. I'm very happy with Nav in my car and I don't think that an $800 option is a big deal when buying a new car. I almost didn't get it myself but changed my mind before the order was placed and added it. I honestly didn't think I would use it as much as I do. I like that I can search for gas stations and prices while I'm on the road. It has really come in handy and I don't think I would purchase a car without it.
