I sold my supercharged Mach to a guy and suggested he get the same insurance that I had (American Modern). Best $450 he ever spent because he wrecked it two weeks later and received a full payout on the car.

My wife sells insurance as an independent agent. We have West Bend Mutual for our home and daily driver autos. I gave her a VIN# of a car configured like the one I have on order and asked her to get a quote from West Bend and one from Grundy.

West Bend doesn't have the car in their system yet, but when using the highest Comp & Collision symbols the quote was $1,422 per year. She said that it may be less than that based on what symbols the car is assigned.

Grundy for $58K stated value coverage was $790 per year, no deductible, no mileage restrictions.

No mileage restrictions, but they do tell you where you can drive your car to right? Only for "pleasure" rides?

All the quotes I got are in the other thread I linked to above. Heacock wanted $1024 for 3k miles etc. But here's what scares me about places like these. It's your word against their legal teams if you crash going to the car show at Burger King. How do you prove you weren't really joy riding. I would stay with real insurance. Geico has been best. When I called them the guy I spoke to knew of the gt350 as he was going to buy one too

That was a very ignorant statement about sticking with "real insurance". All you have to do is get a sample copy of the contract and read through the exclusions. If there is an absolute exclusion regarding going to Burger King, then yes, don't buy the policy. Every insurance company has huge legal teams and if the claim is suspicious (or catastrophic) better believe they are going to make sure you dotted all of your i's and crossed all of your t's.

When you set up the policy, be honest about your usage, the carriers will tell you if you are a fit or not for their program.

Just FYI -- 99% of the people at Geico that you actually speak to when you call in are just data entry people with very little knowledge of underwriting information, let alone claim scenarios. There is a reason you get a different person on the phone every time you call them. I'm not knocking on them at all with respects to how their contract reads or premiums as they are very competitive and also provide a good contract, however if you don't know shit about insurance, good luck getting proper advice on making sure your policy is written correctly. I've had clients get quotes from them and then after reviewing and comparing apples to apples and having them make changes, they realize they almost lost their ass coverage wise because the quotes may look similar, but there could be major differences.

It's astounding how many people are so uneducated about something you pay a lot of money for every year forever.

Maybe if you read the other forum I mentioned you would not be so ignorant in your accusations. I am simply repeating what others have told me. I am going to take the high road unlike you. All I am saying IMO is I would rather have unrestricted insurance where I can drive the car anywhere, even if it is a higher premium, than worry if Heacock is going to cover me because I wrecked on my way to the Burger King car show. I am just trying to convey to others to be wary of the ones that define conditions as to where you can drive the car too. In a friendly manner, not in a hostile manner like you make my statement out to be.

And I DID NOT call the Geico 800#. I spoke to a licensed insurance agent that was recommended to me by a racer friend who was intimately familiar with the GT350 and he took a day to work with the underwriters to guarantee me a policy on a vehicle that yes does not exist, but he knows all about.

Good day.

Sorry. Wasn't trying to come across like a dick if that is how you read it. I am trying to help people understand this all as there is a lot of misinformation being spread around. Maybe you don't mind over paying for insurance but someone else who actually wants to pay a fair premium and sees your comments about these other carriers who offer very nice policies, may be swayed not to even check it out because of the misinformation going around. Being with Grundy, Hagerty, Chubb, etc... yes, you are absolutely right, you can not drive it to work for commuting. You can't use it as a replacement vehicle if your daily driver breaks down, etc etc. There are rules, but it seems like a fair % of the people buying this vehicle truly will use it as a weekend car and have other vehicles to drive to work with. Maybe they want to save the $1000/6 months and get a policy that has no deductibles on it for their brand new toy and are willing to stay within the guidelines of the policy. You are absolutely correct that some carriers have ridiculous guidelines, but that can really be any insurance company no matter who it is, and don't count on the person on the other end of the phone to tell you about all the important items you should be aware of, you need to do that yourself or work with someone you know and trust will look out for your best interest. For example, this isn't listed on your quote but is an available coverage with some carriers: You let your friend drive you car, you may have permissive use, you may not, if not, no coverage if they screw up and it is your liability. Not only that, but even if you have permissive use and you have high liability limits, the policy might contain a provision that reduces your liability limit to the state minimum while someone is operating your vehicle under permissive use.

We are all just sharing information, I just happen to do this for a living and am very experienced so I would like to share my wealth of knowledge with others. My bad for the dickheaded in my previous post, really wasn't meant that way.

One of the reasons why it is cheaper is they say it is for pleasure driving to car events, shows...etc. Here is a link to an interersting article from a guy that did a little research. http://www.acarplace.com/cars/insurance.html They talk about the "prudent man rule" No grocery getter or running errands for sure. The one that got me is the overnight stay restriction. It can't be used in place of the family vacation car, however would be covered if traveling overnight to a car event. I drove my Boss out to Vegas for the 50th Anniv event. I didn't have a claim, but I question now whether they would have paid if I did.

I guess the bottom line is what are you willing to pay and or risk?

This is taking a shot at me, but the test to get your insurance license is a joke lol. It is a somewhat difficult test, but it's one of those tests where you study specific information just to pass the test and then never use it again.

What does your wife think about the collector car policies?

I'm sorry. I did not mean it that way. Someone blasted someone saying calling an 800# insurance company and getting a generic quote is a joke. It was not me, but it was in this thread. However, I just wanted to point out my Geico quote came from an individual, not just some random person I happened to get on the phone. No disrespect at all. Sorry.

I wish I could just tell Nationwide hey my car will never be driven more than 1k miles a year. It will never be on a race track. And it will never be used to go back and forth to work, groceries, errands, etc. But they don't do that. So I will probably go with Geico since there are no restrictions, better coverage mounts than my Nationwide policy and cheaper!

Haha man, no worries! No offense was taken. I just know the hold music for a lot of those places say "a licensed insurance professional will be with you shortly"... it's like they are conveying the idea that being licensed makes them knowledgeable about insurance in the real word but all it means is they studied a book to pass a test.

if are you not going to use your 350 for daily use, go with collector car insurance. Just need to make sure you have another car as your daily driver. I am 29 with a GT500 and I only pay $500 a year for my car. I have Grundy Collector Car Insurance and there is no mileage restriction on it. I still don't drive my GT500 much, may only put 2000 on it each year.

Thanks! Grundy is the one company I have yet to call, but definitely will once I get myself a VIN
