Just show up several times throughout the week and look at the quality they are putting out. In my small town there were at least a dozen shops, so the good tech's went to the bigger production shops.
It all depends on the market in your area. But collision shops put out more product on a given day than a dealership does.

Looks like a fender R&R and call it a day. Hood gap was not even affected. (waiting for gap jokes)...

Because it's a metallic paint check it under direct sunlight and under fluorescent lights in a shop, because the color from panel to panel may not match up. It all depends on how the paint is applied in the factory if it's painted while the panel is on the car as opposed to lying flat on a fender stand the glass or whatever ford uses for metallic will either lay down or stand in the paint making that panel look very different than all others in a "true light" situation.

THIS^^^

Your car is a dark metallic so if the spray is done correctly it should be more forgiving than, say, my Ingot Silver. Ingot is gonna be MURDEROUS to get to blend.............:headbonk:

Always a bummer, sorry! I used to work for State Farm auto. Unless things have changed, they (the shop btw) won't report minor fender stuff like that; if airbags deploy or you had frame damage, etc then yes it would be.

I had a white GT, a bitch to match, as was my 12 blue GT. Light colors or colors with flake and/or pearl are comprised of like, 12 different colors - tough to match!! This time I got plain old, black!!

Another thing that kills me is that I was a lucky 2015 owner with what I consider to be basically no panel alignment issues. Let's see if they create an issue with that.

The adjuster should be around very early this week. The thing is is that the car is at my parents house 3 hours away, and they're now out of town. What a headache. I will update the thread given you guys are helping me cope with this shite.

UPDATE: My dad took the stang to the local dealer body shop and the dude did a quick inspection and immediately said it would be a new bumper. No impact on the door or the hood, so I'm praying for a simple fender swap with no paint issues. Praying, man. Praying.

UPDATE! The body shop sent me an estimate and I'm sharing the key data with you all. Anything look out of line? Seems pretty fair to me. It also looks like they're going to blend the door even though there was no damage there; make sense?

THIS IS ME:

I would ask my body shop to just paint the front fender and let the gap between the door and the fender break like normal and not try to blend. I personally would try to eliminate the taping around the mirror and bottom window door sill because of the potential to peel later. Unless they are going to remove the sill and paint under it.

Technology for paint match has come a long way and I would think they could paint the front fender and use the break in the door/front fender to their advantage.

I'd be up for suggestions like your doing as well.

Get er dun!

Thanks, sir. I'm gonna send your input over to the body shop and see what they say.

I heard back from the body shop dude and he said that all exterior trim is removed before refinishing. He went as far to say that it would be "highly likely" that I would notice the difference between the fender and the door if we don't blend the door. So, I'm going to trust him and have that done. I'll update when I hear back!

Just do yourself one favor. When you go to pick the car up, stand back about 25' and look at the entire side, not just the fender. Pay close attention to the door. A good blend/paint match will not stand out. Look at the way the metallic's are standing too. Air pressure at the gun makes all the difference in the world.

THIS^^^^ He may get away with blending the metallic on a Magnetic colored Mustang because of the darkness of the color but an Metallic Ingot Silver would eat a painters lunch!!!!!

I would strongly recommend have them match the fender not blend because you will end up three messed up panels instead of one if they don't match the paint properly.

Take it from me, no modern car short of the FGT, will ever be collectible. Don't store and save them. Drive them and enjoy them. My C5 Z is going on 14 years old and it has been garaged all its life with 38,000 miles on it, however due the malfunctioning electronics I'm not sure how long it will last. That's the difference between the modern cars and the classic cars....darn electronics. Mark my words, unless it is a Shelby or Boss, it's not worth saving for someone else to drive. Drive it, and stop worrying about small stuff. Even the Shelby and Boss are losing value. Enjoy your car within reason!
My dad always told me everyone said the same thing back in the 60's and 70's. They built/sold 1.1M+ Mustangs in 1965 and 1966 -- yet here we are, 50 years later...

I agree 100% that cars should be driven not stored, but with much lower production numbers today, and the attitude that cars will never be collectible like the oldies is exactly why they will be. A few years ago I could buy Fox Mustangs and parts for dirt -- that is changing now for sure. Complete, clean cars are going up in price and I expect it is going to take off. Parts are already skyrocketing -- I just sold a set of mint black door panels, complete with arm rests, switches, etc, for $750.

In regards to the value of the OP's car, replacing a fender is going to do very little if anything to the value of the car.

I'll do it. So let's say it doesn't look perfect... what do I do?
