The track cars have a little help...

Oil Separators not standard.
That's a great photo. Will be curious to see if those make it to the production models - part of the material hold? If they don't, I know what my first mod will be as they have clearly found a need for their addition during track testing.

So the engineers feel like they need to add this to their highly engineered track car?

Tires help a lot. GT500s with say, DR's, ran low 11's consistently :cheers:
I think gearing will have a lot to do with it also. The GT500 had the power to weight, but it seems like they used long *ss gears to tame wheel spin on those skinny stock tires. GT500's were only using 3 gears to run the quarter. I think the GT350 will be capable of high 11's at the least in the right hands.

Engineers have built vehicles that have no room for improvement from original design through implementation?

If you track the car an oil separator is a good idea. They all blow a little.

Thanks, Topnotch. I wonder if FPR will offer that kit for those of us who want to track the cars some?
Or just buy a generic oil separator kit - it appears that's what they have done. That one looks like a familiar unit :).

I ran an 11.31 in my 14, stock tires, everything, the way it left the dealer. First pass and backed it up with 2 more 11.3s
That's some crazy good times. You must be god like when it comes to drag racing. Can you post a time slip? On street tires with a good driver and conditions it's more like 11.6 to 11.8.

Lets just say ive been doing it 25+ years. I sold the car 2 months ago to get one of these s550s. Everything I had for the car went with it so no slips etc. If someone is getting 11.8 in the 13-14s they need to work on their skills. If I recall correctly the fastest time someone got was 11.2s in the 13-14s. Dunno how many passes it took him though. My trap was 126s and 1 127 pass. This was also in roughly 84-88 degree weather with a DA of 1700 if I recall right.

MT just revealed their 1/4 mile times for the GT350 and GT350R. Not sure if they've been mentioned in another post yet:

http://wot.motortrend.com/does-the-shelby-gt350r-make-more-power-than-the-regular-gt350-wvideo.html

"To the seat of our pants, the R felt stronger than the base GT350. Our Vbox agreed—though there was a negligible 67-pound weight difference between the two, the R beat the GT350 on both 0-60 (by 0.2 second, 3.9 seconds versus 4.1) and through the quarter mile (12.1 seconds at 119.6 mph versus 12.4 at 117.8 mph). We chalked the slight differences up to tire grip (the R wears much more aggressive rubber), and indeed the two cars posted identical 1.7-second 45-65-mph passing numbers."

GT350 = 12.4 @ 117.8
GT350R = 12.1 @ 119.6

Not too bad IMO, given how MT's test conditions usually are.

However, the new Camaro SS was basically the same as the regular GT350 in ET, although 3 MPH slower in trap speed (I think that highlights the torque advantage of the LT1 compared to the Voodoo). And that was with the 6-speed manual. I expect the 8-speed auto to be faster due to a better launch. With that said, I don't think the road course results will be so close between the two.

"The acceleration run from 0 to 60 mph took just 4.0 seconds, and the quarter mile was through in 12.4 seconds at 114.6 mph. "

Camaro SS = 12.4 @ 114.6

That 3 MPH difference at the end is significant IMO.

for those traps the ET is pathetic. Driver cant drag to save his life. Both of those traps are clear 11 second cars. Not to mention a car of the gt350s power and gearing, its trap is off at least 2mph for base and R.

Keep in mind that MT usually uses a non-prepped track and is on street tires. Most Mustang people seem to think that "Stock" times = some type of drag tire. Also, there is a big difference between prepped surfaces and where ever they usually test.

I don't disagree with your premise that the ET is slow for the traps, but the times are IMO representative of what the typical driver might get.

I'm sure when someone runs a GT350 @ Atco, the times will be much better, but not necessarily more representative of the true pace of the car.

I am not one of those people that think drag tire =stock tire.

Im not sure what you consider typical but I consider those to be very sub par ET's. Those traps are clear 11 second cars on either tires that come stock. Even still for the power it puts down, its gearing and power should trap faster then 117 and 119. It should be 119 and 122s. Its for sure off. Im not even speaking "hero" traps either. My biggest issue is the trap and Et. trap speeds are too low as the ET is too slow. Something is DEFINITELY wrong. The driver said the car bogged. You don't bog on unprepped tracks unless you aren't an experienced drag racer

I would have to say piss poor driving, if not, I'm disappointed. .3 is about right for the diffrence between cars due to the wheels, traction and overall weight diffrence.
