Convertible GT + Tom Petty = perfect

Picked up my older kid from after school last Friday (he is almost 6, in K) and we had the top down, great weather, and "American Girl" by Tom Petty came on. We both started singing it full volume ... good times.

Not sure why, but this car seems to be made for listening to Petty. High energy? Try "American Dream Plan B" from his new album, Hypnotic Eye. More mellow, try "Down South" from "Highway Companion". It's all good.

PS For those with younger kids or who plan to have kids, start them listening to music you like (within reasonable appropriateness levels) from early on and you will bypass the annoying "kids" music genre entirely. He's already into a wide range of music like Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Midnight Oil, Daft Punk and Paul Simon, and we can always agree on what music to listen to in the car.

Nice! On a funny, somewhat related note, we were coming home from the apple orchard on Sunday with my nieces and our sons (1 and 3). When we were nearly home my wife started playing Taylor Swift, I think, songs and my nieces were singing along. My older son (3) was in the back yelling at my wife to turn it off.

I can dig it! Petty is one of the few artists my wife and I can agree on.

I have a 5 year old who loves to cruise in the mustang. They'll have memories of being in the stang with Dad for the rest of their days.

My problem is, my wife mostly drives when we're altogether (her X3 has more space) and she listens almost exclusively to Top 40. Our rule is driver picks the tunes. Grates on me a little and my son has more her musical tastes than mine just cause he hears it more. I tend to gravitate more towards Punk, Alt Rock, Hip Hop, and Reggae.

But it's all aces when we're in the mustang!

I'm 62, have a 10 yr. old grandson. I pick him up from school often, take him to his karate classes twice a week, so he rides with me a lot. I listen to mostly rock from the 60's, 70's. he is getting really good at telling me who the band is without looking at the display screen.
I'm hoping this will widen his music tastes, and not limit him to just the popular music of today. (which has become unlistenable). he will be hearing enough of that when with his friends.
The "Who" once sang, "rock is dead". I fear their prediction has come true.

I know that one, not kid friendly I'm afraid. For hip hop, I find some of the stuff from the early 90's works; Tribe, DeLa Soul, Jungle Bros, etc.

Also got him onto the Ramones and The Police.

Absolutely, we've done some Rush too. My favorite for top down driving is Moving Pictures, particularly, for obvious reasons, "Red Barchetta".

I would agree with one exception! Clockwork Angles is now in my opinion their best album made (been to 13 concerts myself). turn up the bass and play "The Anarchist" loud.... good stuff.

When my dad picked up his 35th anniversary GT (lost in Katrina) someone had left a John Fogerty cd in the car. Loved listening to Born on the Bayou. Fast forward to 2011 and when I picked up my 12 that was the first song we listened to.

Nothing like a Mustang and some good music!
