Guess you missed OP and this issue IS in PENNSYLVANIA that DOES apply. I only mentioned Pennsylvania law and linked to it 2-3 times; and last time I checked OP is in Pittsburgh with 2 seconds of researching it, which is still in PA.

Ok I'll play ball if you can keep it mature unlike some. So GM is sending out letters to owners (based on their dozens or hundreds of lawyers with thousands of years of legal experience) NOT to use this feature as it could be illegal in those 15 states to record audio in the car without the occupant(s)' consent, but it's perfectly legal because it's in a public place? Does that make any sense?

The GM issue is when you put the car into valet mode, like when you hand it off to a kid to get valet parked, it starts recording audio.

This is exactly what the article says is illegal in those 15 states. There wouldn't be anyone else in the car except the valet kid driving it to park it. So yes it can apply to 1 person in the car being audio recorded

You're taking the name of the mode too literally. The article and lawyers are just warning that it MAY be illegal IF you are recording AND the recording captures a conversation without one ore more of the party's consent. The case law you keep referring to from that article does not apply in this case because he did not secretly record a conversation.
