Have my '16 on order so voted with my wallet of course. :)

After driving compact cars forever, the new Mustang looks physically huge (though seems to drive smaller).
It's amazing that the original Mustang was just 2,500 pounds, which is around 200 pounds less than a 2015 Honda Civic. Even Steve McQueen's car in Bullitt was significantly lighter and smaller than today's.

I remember how small and light my friend's 5.0 Fox Body LX seems compared to new Stangs. It was like a sled with a V8 engine.

I know it's a sign of the times with safety regulations and features and whatnot.

When I see newer Mustangs, they look pretty large for a sporty car. But that's the way all new cars are. The Accord, the Camaro, the Camry, trucks, everything is getting bigger and bigger.
Hell, even my compact car feels like it barely fits in some urban parking garages.

Curious what people think of the new Mustang's size?
Does the weight make the car feel portly and unmaneuverable?
Or does it handle its weight and size well?

When I drove my friend's '15 Ecoboost, the car felt much bigger than I was expecting. Like you, I'm used to driving compacts and small cars in general(Saturn Astra, Focus ST, Porsche 944). Fox bodies in particular are so much fun to me because they're so small with V8s! What I think happened for me, was because the interior was so cozy, I expected the rest of the car to feel compact and snug around me, and that wasn't the case.

I'm sure if I spent more time in it, or had one of my own, I'd eventually get accustomed to the size difference or force myself to. :p

To be fair though, both the 6th gen Mustang and Camaro have actually shrunk marginally compared to their 5th gen counterparts.

I come from an 08 altima coupe (my first high school car)...when I got the mustang, the car felt so massively big...especially the hood.

After some time driving, I easily got use to it, but I do wish the car was lighter...it does feel heavy.

I love the exterior though, I'm not sure how the car would look like if it was a 2 seater and smaller...but I really couldn't be happier in that aspect.

i agree 100%. i hate how contemporary performance cars are becoming exponentially larger.

i rode around in my buddies NSX the other day and I forgot how awesome it is to have a light and compact vehicle. it made my mustangs feel like boats.

I dont mind the size, but they are overweight Pony cars should be 3200-3300
no matter what the brand. 430HP in a 3300 package would kick ass and save fuel

In Europe it's huge. My 'stang is the longest car in my garage. It's even longer than one of my neighbour's station wagon. It's also the widest. But to my surprise, I have gotten used to the dimensions pretty quickly. It's only a bit of a shock stepping into my girlfriend's Fiesta though: "Where the heck is the hood of this car??"

It looks a lot bigger than It really is! I thought my car wouldn't fit in my garage but it actually takes up about the same footprint as my Camry did.

Size matters? If we're talking "safety", it surely does. I like the size of the 2015 V-6 vert better than the 2013 GT vert that I traded in. I wanted the "looks" and the IRS of the new 6G. And yes it took a couple of weeks to get used to seeing over the hood creases. One very pleasant surprise to me was the feeling of "lightness" of the front end of the cyclone Mustang. The car feels more balanced.

I've ordered a '16 and am constantly reassuring my wife that, yes, it will fit in our garage, yes, it is larger than my compact hatchback, but it is no bigger than her Sonata. I admit that driving her car after my hatchback seems large, and it will take adjustment to having my car be the same size. But should The Mustang as a thing be smaller? Not sure.

I don't consider the Mustang large at all. It is about the same size as current mid-size cars.

By comparison the wheelbase is 1" shorter than a 68 Mustang and 2" shorter than a 71. It is 1" shorter overall compared to a 71 and 5" longer than a 68. It is 4" wider than a 68 and only 1" wider than a 71. It is smaller in all directions compared to my 68 Barracuda. Of course the weight has gone up significantly but that is a function of added safety requirements and the ever increasing demands for more and more features in our cars.

I think the 3500lb weight of my EB is quite good compared to the 4000+ of a Camaro or Challenger.

Having come to the Mustang from a couple of 4dr turbo compacts the large doors of a 2dr coupe took some getting used to but the long hood and wider width felt natural after a couple of days. Definately like the slower steering of the Mustang compared to my Focus ST, you could sneeze and cross 4 lanes of traffic if you were not careful in the ST.

I love the size. Being 6'2" I appreciate the room.

I also think the Mustang is way too large, and the space isn't used as efficiently as it could be. This last redesign they made the car wider, but the seats got narrower. I used to always be really comfortable in Mustangs and it seemed like they were made for people who are a little taller. The latest design - yes I fit fine as far as leg and head room at 6' 4", but the seats are too narrow for me. I really hope Ford's next redesign starts to shrink the overall car size.

car seems the perfect size to me, inside and out...if you pretend the back seats are just extra storage room instead of seats intended for people.

I'm a big guy but I thought I was the only one that thought the seats were pretty narrow. I don't hate them but I do appreciate the seats in my GMC acadia when I drive it. Very Comfy. I look at the mustang as my reason to loose weight and reduce my size to something healthier. The Byproduct will be fitting perfectly in those seats and the "narrowness" not being an issue.
