One of the main reasons I wanted NAV in the car is because I hate the way all the mounts look in the car. It's just out of place and ruins the interior to me. Phones are better but I still like the big screen and not using my phone draining the battery on it, since I also dislike having a charging cord strung across the car.
Sounds like you need a Proclip. I just installed mine today. Looks awesome imo.

I'll never go back to using car nav. They are so far behind Android it's sad.

I put addresses in my Google calendar on my desktop and invite my wife who then clicks on the destination on her phone and drives using Waze which routes around a road that was just closed an hour earlier unexpectedly and I track both of our progresses to our destination with the Waze friends feature while reporting Leo sightings.

Catch up to that.

Your phone's Nav won't help in the middle of nowhere with no service.

It will if you have an offline map like maps.me.

You all realize you can use Sync Destinations on your phone to enter the address? It works with app link and automatically uploads your saved addresses...or you can route to where you wanna go from it...or plan a complicated trip with many stops before you leave with it. (you can also report accidents and police sightings with the app).

Or you can go to mapquest.com and type it in and press send to car...

Also as long as you have a route entered it literally gives you a 'police spotted ahead' warning that, in my experience, is similar in accuracy to those on Waze (As SiriusXM NavTraffic aggregates info from many sources, including some that are community driven). I'm not in a big city and waze misses a lot cause there aren't that many people using it (it used to be what I used before I got the car with nav).

You raise some fair points, but I haven't "synced" something since I stopped using a Palm Pilot.

You sure about that?

Pretty sure it is all automatic, if so you are no more syncing your phone to mft than you are syncing your phone to your email server. Syncing plays a pretty huge role for that cloud thing that everyone seems to be using these days - for backup and to have their files accessible on all their devices.

I just meant I haven't connected two devices to have them sync data to each other. It's all just "auto sync to sever, auto sync to device". That's all I need.

When android auto, yeah, maybe I'll go back to using car electronics. I'm not against them as a technology class. It's just the implementation.

Personally, I prefer my phone for nav.
With it I can have nav in any car I have.

I can hand it to my wife so she can enter the address while the car is moving

My phone didn't cost > $1000 and come packaged with things I didn't necessarily care for.

I don't have to buy map updates for google maps.

Google maps + bluetooth audio ftw.

Pdas, consumer grade cameras, stand alone gps have all taken a beating from smartphones.

Our focus st had nav. Did not see the need for it in the stang

Ya. Though I don't think this is like connecting two devices. More like auto-sync.

Wish I had the option in Canada.

Does the factory nav give arrows or instruction between the gaguge pod? Or just on the sync screen
