Looking to do this, and think it should be an easy swap. I know the pipe size is a slightly different diameter, but I'm thinking a simple reversed reducer in front of the resonator would get the job done. Has anyone done this, or read about it elsewhere? I'd love a sound clip if possible.

Had this done on Friday. Guys at the shop took a video so I'll link it when it's up. They just had a charity event this weekend & it should hopefully be up soon!

All they did was take off the stock system and bolt-on the GT one, it took maybe half an hour, nothing else was needed.

I have a stock gt exhaust in the Tampa florida area for free if anyone wants it. Has 3k miles on it. Just come pick it up.

What difference does the GT exhaust make?
It's obviously still quieter than aftermarket ones but it is a little deeper & more aggressive. I'll send my guys an email tomorrow for the clip since I don't see it on their FB page yet.

It's pretty nice on a cold start but it does go nearly silent after the engine warms up.

I dont think thats how it works @canadian. The exhaust layout is practically the same with the difference 2.5" diameter. The deeper and more aggressive sound you are hearing if from the 2 extra cylinders the GT engine has.

Your better off just getting an x-pipe or h-pipe for just a little more sound and adding exhaust tips, or just save up for an axle back or cat back.

Not sure how that can be since my car didn't magically grow an extra 2 cylinders (as much as I'd love it to!). I don't know how the system works, it was on a whim for a price I couldn't say "no" to (I was the guinea pig) so I obviously can't complain. It does sound deeper though, of that I am sure.

If you're looking for an upgrade I'd obviously recommend looking at the aftermarket systems out there which will be better but this is an option if you don't want to spend that kind of money (especially here in Canada with the dollar where it is). When I have enough money, I'll probably swap it out for a set of borlas.

EDIT: Question for the more knowledgeable guys out there: When looking for an aftermarket exhaust system, if I go for an axleback kit, would I need to buy it for the GT?

No buy it for the v6 model to ensure it fits with no problems

I'm not gonna say no; it's a definite possibility but I believe it does sound different. It would be good if GodSpeed could chime in with his opinion on the sound.

Also, thank you Joe!

it may have more sound muffling and dampening which results in a lower tone?
I don't know much about the stock systems. Could be the wider tips? I'm going to try to grab a video later today so you guys can hear it. It'll be on my cellphone though so apologies in advance.

I just had the same swap done at DaSilva. Took just a few minutes and I love the results. It's definitely way more subtle than aftermarket (I had Roush axelbacks on my 2012.) But it's got more of a burble at 2000 rpm under load, more growl and less high-end under hard acceleration, and I can always hear SOMETHING when the engine is running. I hated how the stock V6 exhaust was basically SILENT.

Joe advised that the wider pipe should net a few HP difference as well.

I'm glad I did this. It's what I wanted since I had my 2000 V6 which had a similar burble.

Here's quick video:
