Whenever I park the GT, I'll choose an area far out and only take one spot of course. I don't mind taking a bit of a walk.

The other day I went to the grocery store and parked out in "no man's land" ... the GT was the only car out there. I was in the store for about 45 min and come out to see a small SUV parked in a space right next to my Mustang on the passenger side. I'm thinking ... WTF is going on? Why would someone even think about parking right next to the only car out there. I looked for door dings but didn't see any, thankfully.

I almost stayed there to wait for the owner to come back and ask them why they chose to park right next to the only car out there in the parking lot. Why do people do this? Are they just zombies who don't think, or is there some underlying reason why someone would do that? Maybe they wanted to look at the car, but dude ... please park a spot or two away and look.

What's your parking horror story? I'm sure there are plenty to tell. :gossip:

I parked my 98 cobra away from everyone while in bestbuy. Came out to find the quarter smashed in along with the rear bumper cover hanging off. No cars near mine when I walked in, none when I walked out.

I ponder this all the time. It never fails.

They probably did it for one of two reasons: 1) They liked your car and thought it would be protected with them next to it, or more likely, 2) to get a rise out of you because you clearly didn't want anyone near your car.

Personally, I find the best place to park is a handful of spaces past the last car. That way you're far enough away that other cars can park closer, but you're not so far away that you draw attention to your car.

A few thoughts:

1. Some people do it on purpose because they know it'll wind you up.

2. Most people park next to other cars. It's easier to place your car in the middle of the spot if there are already cars in the ones next to it.

3. There are malicious people who will pick out a car like yours (parked in "no man's land") and vandalize it. I'll take a door ding over a keyed door/fender/hood any day.

4. The best spots are usually the ones next to the islands amongst all the other cars. Park as close to the curb as possible and there will be plenty of room between you and the spot next to you.

I hate it when this happens. Not kidding, but I've rented a mustang on two separate occasions when traveling for work, and I always get my lunch and eat in the car in the parking lot. There's been two times where someone came all the way to the back and parked next to me. One of those times the person getting out swung their door open and dinged the car door.

So annoying.

yep, i park far away as well and always seem to have someone next to me.. usually if i have to park next to someone, i snap a photo of the license plate so when i come out and if there are any dings i at least have an attempt at retribution lol

I think people who purposely park with another car way out either

A) has an equally nice ride and wants to park in the same area to not get dings or scratches.

B) just a butt hole who wants to get you riled up and they like to play games or are jealous to what you have.

Those people should be careful with who they try to wind up. People who fuck purposely with others will be gored at some point along the way.

Someday when I'm bored I may just park out there in no-man's land, take a seat someplace and monitor what goes on. Might be interesting.

Whenever I had my Kia Soul (still was a car-lover), I either parked beside a nice car in front of the store or would park beside the nice cars far out in the parking lot (like your GT, as an example). I did this because I knew of the unlikelihood that I would walk out and find scratches or dings on my car and it gave me a peace of mind. Don't get me wrong, there are some people who will purposely do that just to p*ss you off because they know you intentionally parked far out for that reason, but majority of times, they are doing it to protect their own vehicle as well.

What I always do and I believe a reader said the same thing above, is whenever I have to park my car beside two cars at a restaurant or store when there are no other parks available, I will take a picture of the license plate just in any event I walk out and see scratches or dings on my Mustang.

One of the reasons I'm not planning to DD my Mustang when I get it is that there are a lot of people around where I live who get angry if they assume somebody is "putting on airs". I've seen a fair few keyed/deliberately dented/otherwise vandalized cars that their owners had parked away from others. I also was told a story from way back in the day where some locals actually got together and flipped a guy's GTO over onto its roof because they thought he was too proud for his own good. :eyebulge:

I once got door dinged while I was sitting in the car. (Not my Mustang). I went ballistic, my wife had to restrain me instead of helping me take action

I hate when people have no disregard for other people's property. This comment reminded me of a few weeks ago whenever my partner and I were in his Chevrolet Cruze outside of Panera Bread and this woman and her husband were getting into a Volvo sedan as the rain was coming down and and she opened her door on my guys mirror. Didn't even acknowledge us inside the car, not even a sorry. She shrugged her shoulders with a smug look on her face. Guess she was so worried about her hair getting wet. I got out of the car and started screaming at her to get out and see the 3 inch scrape mark on his mirror that her carelessness caused. My partner had to get out in the rain and hold me back from ripping her car door handle off. I'm a firm believer in respecting other peoples vehicles. I UNDERSTAND accidents happen, but the fact that you don't apologize or take blame makes the situation 100x worse.

I experience this same thing all the time. No matter how far I park some guy parks his rusty truck right next to my car. When this happens I just check for any damage before leaving.
