Question, but first, this is interesting as well.

The prototype GT350's use Carbon Fiber roofs (similar to the M4). This isn't the first time we have heard of some unique equipment on the GT350 that didn't make the budget cut. Carbon Ceramic rotors and a Carbon Fiber roof could have been a few pounds for sure.

My question is, why is it such a big deal about the Mustang using a CF roof while the Camaro GS.R had nearly all its panels replaced with CF.

I would love to get my hands on the Pratt-Miller equipment for the z28.R. The Camaro GS.R weighed 3400lbs and it required Carbon Fiber panels to do it. Now, the z28.R takes its place and initially at 3400lbs. All with heavier equipment overall... Even though IMSA no longer adds that info to the spec sheet, I suspect Pratt equiped the z28.R with CF panels as well.

It's fine if they use Carbon Fiber all over the exterior but the Mustang can't use a CF roof? None of the GS.R or z28.R panels needed removed...

I'd like to share some insight from Dean Martin about tires in GTS. The z28's mandated tire not only contributes to the Camaro's overall 3-4% larger footprint (WB:T Ratio) but it's lower profile prevents deflection as well. It is true the tires offer less resistance and the Boss is said to be 6 seconds faster than the z28... Which that 6 seconds as some of his critics suggest, has to do with a less resistant tire and less rotational mass... and not the skill of the driver nor quality of the vehicle.

Take a look at the Boss's front wheel here...

Dean goes on to claim that the rear tires are worse. The fronts are 660mm vs. the rears at 680mm. Although, he doesn't have a good picture of it, he posted this.

Running behind on your Mortgage? Do you want a GT350R but are looking to recoup almost 50% of the MSRP or, God forbid, the ADM you had to pay?

Easy!!! Sell your $30,000 Carbon Fiber Wheels!!!

Oh my lord...30,000 wheels from a 12,000 R package...what?
I'm sure they get an invoice price for bulk. 500 sets of wheels a year for a minimum of 5 years...

I doubt any other CF manufacturers have that kind of contract. Well, these are the first even CF wheels.

I wonder what would happen if they include those wheels in a Mustang GT-R package. It might make for a cheaper wheel in the long run.

That's a $25,000,000 to $50,000,000 dollar guarantee for a company that's probably only worth a few million, if that...

Keep in mind that what Ford might be selling the parts for is of no bearing to what they buy them from the supplier for. So, economy of scale aside, there is often a massive mark up (3-4 times in some cases) on these things, especially on models that they want to maintain exclusivity on.

Not sure if this has been posted, if so I apologize. I've been on the the road two days to run the road course in Bowling Green.

Anyways apparently the 8,250 rpm of the GT350 is an over Rev feature and after 8 seconds the rpm is cut back to 6,250. Kind of disappointing..

There's a post on here about that already.

My opinion about this is that it will help the longevity and endurance of the motor, and possibly encourage the driver to live lower in the powerband while on the track. Despite the nannies, ford is showing off and dominating with this car on the track publicly. I highly doubt they would sell some neutered version to the public after all of this media coverage.

As long as you aren't holding above 6250 for 8 seconds the redline will stay at 8250. That 2k rpm gap will be closed quickly in almost every situation. Unless youre just holding 7k through a corner for 8 seconds. I don't see this being an issue if the car is being driven properly. This isn't a noob mobile, they don't offer an automatic for this car for a reason.

Also as others have said, tuners will find a way. I know I'll be doing light mods and a tune, especially if the gains are nice.

The tune will not be an issue as far as a work around. But I have to assume the reason this exists is a longevity thing for the motor.

Ok so then

2nd to 3rd = 5661 RPM
3rd to 4th = 5956 RPM
4th to 5th = 6345 RPM but by then you're already doing 142 MPH.

So are there any straights that would require you to go over 142 mph and thus shift into 5th gear, which wouldnt allow you to drop below the 6250? I'm also assuming you need to do so to keep the overrev feature from kicking in.

I can't see anyone holding 6200+RPMS for over 3 seconds in any situation. It's just not normal driving behavior.

True, except for top speed runs (obviously not normal driving behavior lol).

I'm not sure. Seems that limiting the last 2K rpm of the powerband could at some point put the driver at a disadvantage and they could potentially lose precious time. Maybe not...I'm no expert on this of course, and I do agree that staying above 6,250 rpm for over 8 seconds will not be normal. Its just a little disappointing considering this engine is supposed to be a high revving track engine, yet the rpm range that is any higher than other n/a V8 engines is only allowed for a short time. It just doesn't seem right.

I'd love to see a track video with rpms displayed on the screen. Is one available?

Apparently the GT350 DOES NOT have an over-rev function. The document containing said feature has since been removed since this discussion went live.
