This is my first post on this site. Just want to say hi to everyone first. My question is about possible torque control issues with the FRPP / Roush tune that is provided with their supercharger. I installed the kit a week ago and put about 500 street miles on it and everything seemed great. This past weekend I took it to the track to see what kind of numbers I could run and I had nothing but problems while I was there. Some of the issues I ran into were as follows:

1. A low rpm launch would pull really hard about 3/4 of the way down the track, and then it would feel like the traction control kicked in and felt very underpowered. Just pushing in the clutch and trying to rev the car seemed slow. This run was done with the advance track turned off.

2. My next run was a higher rpm launch and seemed to get me off the line really quickly, however there was a lot of wheel spin, and about half way down the track it was like the traction control came back on. I ran a 14.2 at 116mph. Last half of the track was only at about half throttle.

3. My last run of the night was another higher rpm launch. My 60' time was good. There wasn't a lot of wheel spin this time, but just past the 60' mark the car felt like it had no power. I was only in 2nd gear and had it floored, then out of no where it was at full power again. So much so that it broke my rear end loose and was like I was on ice. This is the closest I ever came to wrecking a car at a dragstrip... it was very scary and I was very sideways and rolling toward the wall...

I read everything I could find online about these issues and I found a lot of people talking about the FRPP tune not doing a good job with torque control. I called FRPP tech support today and they tell me they've never heard of this problem before. I'm not really sure where to go from here. On the street the tune is very reliable and is super easy to drive. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Can you datalog and capture this?

I'm not sure if you can datalog the torque management, but perhaps something else in the turn is causing this issue and will show on a datalog.

I cannot comment on the torque control but I have observed that this IRS system exhibits a lot of rear wheel steering under high torque, hopefully just due to bushing deflection. I am in the process of swapping out cradle bushings (along with some other minor stuff) but I fear it might be the LCA bushings as the real culprit.

Either way, it makes my car rather unpredictable and unsettled feeling when trying to race, and it can be difficult to keep in one lane under full throttle.

You need to call your tuner. I assume roush did your calibration since you didn't say, so give them a call or contact kyle@roush on this board.

They (as are all our vendors here) are great to work with, even in the unfortunate times when things aren't going right.

I'll discuss with tech and see if they're run into it, do you have pics of your slips by chance ? or the 60' time, 1/8th mph and 1/4 mph?

I don't think that I have the time slips any more. My MPH at 1/4 mile was 117 with a 2.3 60' time and my 1/4 mile time was 12.4. That was the low RPM launch. My other two launches were around 3500 rpm, 60' time was 2.0ish and my mph was 106 and 112. My 1/4 mile time for those two runs were 14.0 and 14.2. I think my 1/8 mph on my 12.4 second run was 90.xxx mph. I don't remember my 1/8 mile mph numbers were for my other two runs.

Can you log IAT's? Check to make sure that your intercooler pump is working. Might be getting hot and pulling a ton of timing?

Mark, I agree with Travis, because something [perhaps heat] causing the pull back on timing.

I don't have a data logging tool for this car, but i was watching the IAT and cylinder head temp while I was at the track. Cylinder head temp was between 210 and 225, and the IAT was between 110 and 130. Sitting in traffic the IAT will come up to 145ish but once i start moving it goes down to 90 - 115 depending on weather conditions. I was concerned about the intercooler and have checked the degas bottle and can see fluid moving through it.

Tech does not have any known issues, said the most common thing is when guys hit redline or have traction control or stabliatrac and dont realize it.

One thing that does come to mind about the intercooler pump is the engine on power source that you splice into behind the driver side cylinder head. I used that source to also tell an aftermarket Sub / Amplifier to turn on. Could this be creating any issues?

Put a boost gauge on temporarily and see if the boost goes away for a few moments. More than likely it is pulling the throttle back... I saw similar issues before.

IAT on the dash is not IAT2 (manifold, post IC), its the temp sensor in the MAF in the airbox.

I do have a mechanical boost gauge that I can hook up to it. When the problem occurred it did really feel like i just took my foot off the gas, or only went to half throttle. Could it be an issue with the throttle body or something?

Subbing for the outcome. I just recently purchased a 2015 and had the dealer install the phase 1 kit. They are almost done with the install. I saw your et and trap speed in another post and was concerned... You should be trapping in the 120's and have at least an 11 sec et depending on your tires and 60'. Please keep us informed of the outcome!

I'm having same issues with mine. I haven't taken it to the track but it's done it a few times on the street. Trac control and Advance Trac off in Track mode. It's like it looses all power and then suddenly comes back. I have the ecoboost boost gauge in mine and will try to repeat it later to see if boost falls off... It's pretty aggravating and have contemplated just putting a Lund tune on it to get rid of all it. But.... There goes my warranty if I do so:/

Sub'd as well....
