Owned 87 notch & 99gt in the past. Stopped by Bickford ford (wa) and drove a base ecoboost. Interior was nice, much better than past mustangs. On the driver the first I noticed was how settled the rear end was. I did not get to really push the car in the turns but it never seemed unsettled, very smooth ride. Power wise it was comparable to my 99gt but a more isolated feel. Running it through the gears it had a noticeable power drop off by 5500rpms. Over all it was a nice car but was missing something.
About a month later I went to Kirkland Ford and test drove a GT PP premium. Salesman handed me the keys (fob) while he moved a car out of the way. When I first started the car I knew exactly what the ecoboost was missing. The GT had a much more living feeling to it and character. After starting it I imediatly notice the tach is at 0-200rpms. I show the salesman and he says that's normal, I then tell him around 700rpms is normal. His response was the new cars idle that low. No point in arguing with an idiot. The interior was nice with really comfortable seats and ones that barely cooled which was dissapointing. For most of the test drive the salesman was obsessed with the sound system (w/sub)and becoming borderline annoying. On the drive I imediatly notice the brakes have very strong initial bite, almost to grabby. I'm sure it's something you can adapt to. But what really impressed me was the suspension! Firm but at the same time compliant and in no way uncomfortable at any time. When I drove through an area where road work was being done there was no brittilness or crashing. I was really impressed and expecting worse. Then there is the engine, first time driving a coyote, wow! This thing moves and I really did not mind shifting so much with the 3.73. I really enjoyed it.
So my next step will be ot drive a base GT with stock gearing, but I will now most likely get one with the PP. I will also go base because I could really care less about the extra tech stuff. Leather and toggle switches were the only thing I would want from the premium but no for $4000. The worst part of all is not many dealers carry base GT PP, and on top of it in competition orange.
