When my car was NA I thought of the standard traction control as the superficial wheelspin nanny for noobs, and advance trac as a "save your ass" for when you weren't trying to get too crazy or didn't want to have to try very hard.

After a while of being boosted I learned that Advance Trac was a lot more intrusive than I initially thought.

After playing around with it a lot recently I discovered it was robbing me power almost all the time. Seeing my traction light flashing in 4th gear even with normal traction control off is what sparked my curiosity knowing that my car couldn't be spinning 4th every time.

So I turned off advance Trac and tried fourth and what I found was the car pulled way harder and the rear suspension flex is causing rear wheel steering that is very noticeable above 80 at full throttle. At first it gives the sensation of wheel slip but then I thought it was the drag radials and then I realized it's just rear steering.

I believe this was tripping advance Trac. I now turn it off every time and my car is consistently far more powerful and 10x more often it actually feels like the power the dyno showed.

Hopefully after installing all my IRS parts the rear suspension will stay true and I can leave advance Trac on for street use.

If you haven't tried your boosted car without advance Trac... Give it a shot. But remember safety first: don't end up like all the Mustangs on YouTube.

I drive 90% of the time with it off. The only time I will leave it on is if I go from a dig on the street. I just blow the tires off if I take it off.

Are you talking with it completely off or with in sport mode? I was wondering about this myself once I go FI. I currently always drive with the advancetrac in sport mode, occasionally I will turn off advancetrac, but I absolutely never drive with advancetrac on unless it is raining.

Advance Trac is not related to the throttle modes. It's a traction control system that appears to be focused on keeping the car straight. To shut it off, you hold the traction control off button for about 6 seconds. Doesn't matter if you are in sport, normal, track, rain (these are just throttle maps). You turn it off the same way.

it senses any unwanted yaw on the center axis. So if you are experiencing the rear wheel steer effect you describe, advance trac will certainly step in and cut power and in some cases apply break to keep you straight.

I'm not fi yet, but I ride in race mode and advanced trac off. I bought a mustang and don't want anything stepping in and taking power away. If I was 16 and my first car I get it, but after 20 plus years of high powered street cars I want all the hp I paid for.

I've had the car kill power even in race with trac off (traction button held for 10 seconds). It drives me crazy.

Even with it completely disabled, it still controls things a bit. Pull the ABS fuse up front, and it'll completely disable everything. Then you're in for a party. ;)
Why can't they just make "OFF" be off, I knew this car felt a little too composed in the canyons....exiting corners trying to get it to step out

.
I think about this all the time. My 1st car in 1987 was my 1982 Mustang GT. 4 speed and 160 hp.

I did some pretty crazy things in that car. If I had my 2015 as a 1st car, and no traction control or advance trac, I would certainly be dead.

Heck, until 1990, the speedo would top out at 85mph.

I like having the option. As long as I can turn it off when i want to... I like having it there. In my Nissan, I generally turn it back ON when I get on the tollway or take ramps really fast because I dont really want to get sideways at 100mph on the street.

In the Mustang its a nuisance because the regular on/off switch hardly allows anything... and having to hold the button for 6-10 or whatever seconds is tedious. If they could tone it down to just like 2 seconds I could live with it being a secondary off. But as is, its annoying as hell to have to dick with the switches for 15 seconds combined every time you start the engine.

They should have made it similar to the quick double tap that puts it in sport mode. And yes I am referring to the advancetrac, I think you may have misunderstood my earlier post, not sure.

You are talking about the switch that goes from Normal, Sport, Track, Wet/Snow right? Thats just different throttle maps and none of them turn off advance trac. Advance Trac is the same switch as the normal traction control switch except you hold it down forever to turn it off, a message pops up on the screen to tell you that Advance Trac is off.

Nope I am talking about the traction control button. If you hit it once it says traction control off, if you hold it for 6 seconds it says advancetrac off, if you double-tap it, it says advancetrac sport mode. I had this same function on my 2011. I have a base model so I am not sure how this works with toggle switches but I provided a video below to show how's it done.

Oh crazy, never seen that. Maybe that is just for Autos or non-PP cars? My car doesnt have that... if I double tap the switch it just cycles normal traction ON/OFF quickly.

You either hold the traction control switch or the driving mode switch (can't remember) for 6 seconds and it will turn off advanced trac in the Premium PP.
