Yeah, that's weird how everyone here (North America) will park their manual cars with a gear in. Where I'm from, you only do it while parking in a steep slope, and you leave your car in reverse if you're facing down, or in 1st if facing up.... Everytime I had my car serviced I would find it back on the lot with a gear in, good thing that even though I'm the only one driving my car I always double check that I'm in neutral before starting it.
Other than that, it's just handbrake and neutral...
I'd definitely consider a remote start here in Canada, would be nice in winter !
Though you've gotta be careful, one of my ex in the US once left her bimmer in 1st gear, and then remotely started her car... Her garage door still remembers that lol

I felt I was weird for never engaging gear, I just keep it in Neutral and crank the brake up

Hate whenever my mechanic cranks the gear, I always check if it's behind another car, last thing I wanna do is assume it's not and rear end another customers car :(

Damn, that's fucked up about your ex btw

Exactly. We take the risk of the mod, but we'll worth the risk for careful p. I Park on a level surface. Be nice to have a stock autostart system.

Im not interested in anything aftermarket. Only Ford products. It sounds like that it doesn't exist. I always park in neutral. Thanks everyone

How would that even work? I park mine in gear, so you would have to clutch in to start. Would you have to park in nuetral? If so you are rely on ebrake to keep car put? I wouldn't feel comfortable parking on a slope with only ebrake.
Well you just wouldn't push to start it if you were on a sloop it's not that hard

My EU Spec lexus IS 200 has no safety switch, I normally park it in neutral but did forget one time and tried to start the car, I just barely avoided rear ending the car in front of me. We are all human and make mistakes, as evidenced by the stories above, Hell it probably won't even be your mistake. Too much risk for too little reward IMHO, but in the end it's your money and car, do what you are comfortable with. By the way remote start here in Europe on a manual is ILLEGAL, and so is Idling a car for more than 3 minutes. You will be at fault for any damages and your insurance will not cover it. US laws may be different.

As for keeping your car parked... Leaving it in gear is a preventative measure keeping your car looking the way you like it. You don't need to do it (highly recommend on hills), but it is a good habit to adopt (on all surfaces). When in gear, you have more "holding power" on all the wheels. So if someone bumps your car, it has a better chance of staying where it is. The e-brake alone doesn't take much force to move. Again, preventative measure... sort of like locking your doors.

Not sure why people in here park a manual car in neutral. Just a dumb thing to do IMO. Being in gear is a good backup in case something happens to the ebrake. Takes 1 second to do when parking the car.
