My transmission broke!

I spoke too soon haha. Just called the dealer They confirmed the parts will be in this Friday. Said realistically it will be done by next Thursday to give the mechanic time to assemble it and get the car back together. So hopefully I'll have it back in a week or so.

Sorry DiEzel.... Maybe you broke something different than I did? A little weird I would be getting parts before you especially since you have been waiting twice as long as I have. Did they say exactly what broke? I'll ask what parts mine needed next time I talk to them.

More or less - Second gear shattered/broke from what I was informed. From what I was informed there were ZERO parts to repair them, in any state of repair.. Hmmm

And this isn't info from my dealer. This is from Ford Service's regional CSM.

Yep Yep, Been fixed for about 2 weeks now. Complete new transmission unit.

Ford also gave me a 75k mile warranty for having to go through this mess.

Sorry - posted in another thread about it, didn't want to just seem like I was bitching. In regards to the "how" I'm not really sure the answer. I have 10,000 miles, the noises were there from when I drove it off the lot, albeit they were faint. They were so intermittent the dealer couldn't find it after spending almost 20 hours trying to. On the 3rd July it started making a clunk noise so bad (separate, un related issue which is two leaky struts up front) I had to drive straight to the dealer. I've had the same mechanic by request each time and I think he was so determined to find the issue he discovered something I myself would have blown off - 3rd gear was whining and grinding. I do not abuse my car by any means but certainly drive it as its meant to be driven like almost everyone on the forum. I genuinely think that I just happened to get a bad mt-82 that snuck through QC and only was discovered because the tech was so determined to get it.

"A long time and three trips to the dealer later my issue was finally discovered. They pulled my drivetrain and discovered bad throw out bearing and 3rd gear and synchro - I had noticed a faint whine but didn't mention it and they told me 3rd gear assembly was shot. Now waiting for an official parts ETA (being told full trams swap) from ford and it's not looking good, they won't even tell me how long yet because they are trying to shorten it if at all possible, ugh.

All in all my dealer has been stellar - they are really sympathetic to my frustration even gave me a 14GT convertible track pack GT to use as a show of good faith. (It made this process SOOO much easier). I'm trying to turn this into a positive as I have a whipple kit about two weeks out so I just ordered an RXT kit from beefcake (terry is the man) and the dealer has agreed to install it for me while obviously voiding the clutch warranty. So in a way it's good, would have been doing that clutch/flywheel/bearing anyway and it can't hurt to get a fresh tranny or reman right ahead of my blower."

With so many postings about bad dealership service, it's good to hear a positive one! Sounds like they are on top of things and you have a real sharp tech on your side. I guess I should turn down the radio sometimes and listen to my car on occasion!

I will add that back during Christmas time, I found a tech that is whiz with gear swaps. I chased him down since he had recently changed jobs/dealerships. Drove about an hour to take my son's '95 GT in for a total rebuild on the axle. His labor was right at $500, but he rebuilt a limited slip carrier, pressed bearings and the anti-lock FG wheels on new axles, set up the ring and pinion and did three different drives to do the heat tempering of the new gears after they were installed. Rear end is as good as new now.
It was Pat Fitzgerald at Santee Ford down in Santee SC if anyone local is looking for a good tech. I'm now taking a 9" center section to him for my '66.

Well, I got my car back and haven't even been on the forum since! Been out playing! I guess I'll update you guys now haha. So I literally got my car back on day 29 mid afternoon on a Saturday. Ive had the car back for about two months now been out on a few drives a handful of times but it spends most of its time in the garage. I'll let the Ford tech tell you what was found I'll just attach the service receipt. (The second one made me LOL) guess ford never heard of scrubbing tires before haha. they used a total of 66 new parts to rebuild my transmission. They said they had to use a few parts from the 14 mustang with different part numbers but assured me that they match perfectly. This made me a lil nervous but its been working for 2 months now with only one thing that is making me slightly paranoid. When its in neutral on cold start up the tranny makes an intermittent sound. It's like two papers rubbing together like a idle loop or something but then goes away once the car warms up. That's the only thing Ive noticed so far. You guys think I should take it back to see what they say about that? or am I just being Hyper sensitive now? Overall it was a good experience with them (some lack of communication on there part but overall ok). Dealer detailed my car inside and out when i picked it up which was really nice of them.

Driver abuse LOL. The Pirellis are made of butter and they literally melt even with normal driving. I have 6500 miles on mine, it's a daily driver and my rears are half gone already.
