Oil change time

Has anyone crawled under and changed the oil on their Ecoboost yet? From what I read it uses the same filter and oil as my Fiesta ST did. I just want to know if there is any little quirks I should expect when I get around to changing mine this weekend. I'm assuming there's a belly pan with 3 million screws to fight with....

I don't know about the Fiesta ST part but as far as changing the oil there is nothing special to it. No screws / covers to remove. Just easy access to the oil pan drain plug and the oil filter.

the oil filter is right beside the oil pain drain, its all easily accessible. I used mobil 1 and a oem filter, apparently the oem motorcraft filter is pretty good.

Similar questions to George's. Also I've heard that Rotella T6 was meant for diesel engines, does it make a difference? I can't find it available in 5W-30 either. Anyone have the WIX part number?

there are plenty of stories of dealers denying engine warranty with non oem filter on, they will claim some BS about an aftermarket filter cause an issue, that's why I always run an oem piece.

Those incidents should have been fought. That is absolutely not valid. As long as you change the oil and oil filter at the correct intervals and can show that, use the proper type (not brand) of each, they can't deny the warranty. The Magnuson-Moss warranty act protects us from that kind of response. You can even take your car to Jiffy Lube. :lol:

T6 has been proven to be a strong oil for the price. It out performed many "performance" style oils like Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple by http://www.blackstone-labs.com/. It has a ton of anti-wear properties because it is intended for diesel engines. The fact that is is labeled for Diesel engines doesn't mean it can't be ran in your ordinary gas engine. The weight is still 5w-40 no tricks or anything for disel.

I run T6 5,000 to 7,000 miles without any problems on my performance engines. On my daily driver Tiguan 2.0TSi I run it for 10,000 miles.

T6 only comes in one flavor.

Shell Rotella T6 5w40 synthetic is what to look for if you so choose. There are a few reasons to go this way, oil has good fuel shear which protects against fuel dilution which is an issue on direct injected motors. Oil weight is slightly heavier and sometimes help prevent old smokey. It works well with direct injected motor as they are fairly similar to diesels, just we have spark plugs. Only draw back to T6 is it doesn't have the detergents and pretty sure is another cause of carbon build up on the back of the intake valves. Personally I have been running Red Line 5w30 and has worked out well in direct injected motors, is just expensive.....

I am not sure about 'plenty' of stories. Everyone knows about the next door neighbor of cousin George that has a friend in Topeka that.....well, you know the rest of the story. Stay with a name brand and you will be fine.

I know from first hand experience of warranty claims denied from oil filter failures. Split seams, failed bypasses, etc. Nothing from a real brand, however. Stay with good stuff and you will be okay. Don't buy unmarked filters in a box that are labeled to look like "Motorcraft" but say "Motocraft" on them or some silly nonsense for 99 cents. Also, try to avoid the 'deals' where you can get a filter and oil for $5.99 on special at the corner auto parts place unless you can identify what is actually in the package. I personally use Motorcraft, AC Delco, Extreme Duty Fram, Hastings, etc. If someone is not willing to put their name on a part then don't use it.

Thanks for that more technical explanation, that really helps me. I'm due for my first oil change and am going to go find that and a WIX filter tonight. I did some searching on WIX and was very impressed with that as well.

Wow lots of good info in here, I haven't had a chance to climb under the car and see what the under body shielding was like. Some cars are a huge pain to change the oil in, my wife's Abarth forced me into getting a pump to siphon out the oil since the filter is right up top.
Is rotella usually carried by normal autoparts stores? I don't want to order and wait off Amazon, also I've never had an issue with Motorcraft filters.... yet haha.
