A Day or Two and Boom

My 1st Mod, upgrading my 2015 GT from 18" Ok wheels and tires to

20" Wheels and tires I like after tons of reading and deciphering,

Question is, Should I go with 20x8.5 all around or 20x8.5 Front and 20x10 Rear. Tires will be 255-35-20, I think they will work on both wheels, but will they actually look any different or be any better that way?

Or does the 20x10 need a bigger tire.

My GT is the Base model so I think fitment is good whichever way I go.

Any input would be very helpful.

on the 20x10 you should at least go with 275's

Someone locally is telling me that doing 275 in the rear and 255 in the front will wear the front tires out sooner, does that make any sense to anyone ?

Unless you plan on doing 295+ tires in the rear I'd go square 275s all around.

20x9.5 275 or 20x10 285

You will probably save some cash with 20x9.5 and 275 tires. 275 is common size and prices are low in comparison to 285/295+.

I disagree they wont wear faster as staggered, but only in the sense that you cannot rotate them. With staggered you can only rotate side to side, but not front to back. How much faster, probably minimal in the scheme of things. But obviously your rears where they power is coming from will wear a lot faster than the fronts not matter what size tire. Front to back rotation is important on a high hp car if you don't want to replace tires every 10,000 miles in the rear.

I've always hated staggered setups since my S197. This time the S550 can handle a 275 tire up front and rear so I went 275s square on 20x10 wheels. Now I can rotate front to back (although not side to side because I unknowingly got directional tires, but the front to back is the biggest wear on the tire overall since only one end is driven by the drivetrain)

I do agree OP, I thought I would last on the stock 18s a while, but the 20s just looks so much better on the car and fill the wheel well much nicer. Totally better look.

You can easily do a 20x10 square with a 275 or 285 tire no problems

I got the American Muscle FR500 20x8.5, they showed up today, look great and fantastic deal thanks to our Rep on here. Tires will be in Monday, Install Day :-). Then out of the blue on another forum a member tells me I cant use my original lug nuts, tell me this isn't so. I did not get new lug nuts for two reason, thought I could use the old, save money, and AM is out of the ones you can add if you want too. Also on the AM site it does not mention special lug nuts. AM I missing something or am I ok and stock will work?

Usually for aftermarket wheels, the diameter in the new wheels is smaller than the stock lugs. It's best to check the description of the item, or PM one of the AM folks on the board who can help steer you.

Thanks for the info, this is going to cause me more issues if correct, not much time left to get a set of correct lugs here, there is no info with the wheels at all, I wrote AM, no answer so far.

Are you sure they aren't telling you that you can't rotate them since they are different-sized, and that means they will wear out sooner? Not necessarily true anyway.

He actually sold tires and said this as well as the rotating thing.

I already ordered everything now, now I got the possible lug nut issue?
