Oh well, at least Ford has moved the steering wheel and pedals for us RHD'ers!
We'll see! Swopping the pedals isn't necessarily straight forward, as I recall other manufacturers have made compromised RHD versions resulting in pedals angled to the centre etc. If Ford are taking an 'it'll do' approach to the centre console, I doubt they care about the stuff we can't see. Let's hope we don't get diagnosed with "Mustang spine" in a few years time - Mustang owners being instantly identifyable by the fact that we'll be walking around with our torso permanently pointing 5 degrees to the left!

Mercedes is a prime example of this. The A-Class is fine, but everything else has the steering rack off centre to the driver, so you're twisted slightly toward the centre.

Ahh... maybe this is why the wife's Mini has the steering wheel pointing a little to the left on the US LHD. Opposite side drive from standard.

It wouldn't be a deal breaker but it would be weird, the way it is now is perfect, if you have something in the cup holders you can still have you arm on the armrest unlike the last gen, and sitting on the other side negates that, though the parking brake wouldn't be an issue I would think seeing on how small the center console is. Ford really should have swapped it around though.

In US versions, anything in the cup holders is in your way anyway (if you have a manual trans) so them being not moved to the other side really won't matter. They're pretty much useless is what I'm saying.

I was just about to write that...

Thanks to all for your input....we have been waiting for so long for the RHD version and still have to wait more than six months yet, that we are getting cabin fever. Ford have not released any details about the cars....info trickles out in drips and so far it has not been all good....

My Chevy HHR SS has the parking break on the right of the console and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It feels perfect

If Ford can't be bothered changing the centre console, wonder if they will move the START/STOP button from the left side of the switch panel to the right side.

That's been shown already on prototypes, it is moved to the right hand side of selector toggles, so no stress.

I for one do use the cup holders.
When I have the boy in the front ( 4 years old) in his car seat, I carry a bottle of water for him.
Ok it's not every day, mostly at weekends.
Not trying to be a nanny here, but does the export version come with air bags? If so, put your little one in the back seat. Air bags and 4 year old's don't mix. It can break his neck if you get in a collision.
Now that being said, I know newer cars come with weight sensors to set the bags off. But I for one would not take a chance on a sensor.

Passenger airbags have a deactivation switch in the event you put a child in the front-seat. Its mandatory on all cars.

Cool! I have not seen one in my '15 yet, although I haven't really gone looking for it. I know that Ford use to put them in older cars and trucks. I borrowed an '04 F150 while I was waiting on mine to get built and delivered and it had a key switch right on the dash.
Maybe that's another difference in the export version? Off to read the owners manual!

EDIT: Nope, just a sensor on our USA cars. And a big ass warning in the OM about not letting anyone under 12 sit in the front seat, especially rear facing car seats.

How bizarre. EU cars all have some form of deactivation switch. I wouldn't trust a sensor, personally.

1994-04 Mustangs had the e-brake lever on the RIGHT side and I owned 3 of these cars and never thought it was awkward having it on the passenger side of the console. However all of a sudden having it on the LEFT on my 2011 after 16 years and 350k miles of it being on the RIGHT was one of the things I did not like.

With the cruise on, I change leg positions and the e-brake lever can poke my right thigh which is annoying. I can see it being even more annoying for someone who is taller with the seat further back.

I also don't drink in my cars, so the cup-holder locations are never an issue for me.

Anyway ...

For Ford to move the e-brake lever to the RH side for RHD markets would be more than just mirror image console parts. It would require a different FLOOR PAN, E-BRAKE LEVER ASSY, E-BRAKE CABLES, as well as the CONSOLE.
