Interesting review I wonder how that writer would have reviewed the ecoboost with the 6 speed manual and performance package.

I put my grand children ages 2 and 4 in the backseat and they were fine :) So I don't understand his reference to the backseat.

It really sounds like it was an issue with the transmission:

Given that the EcoBoost Mustang isn’t fun to drive aggressively (at least not with an automatic transmission)
I read Jalopnik daily and it's hit or miss if I'll agree with them. However, this review was actually one of the worst I've read regardless of if I agree or not. I haven't driven an automatic EB, but every fault he had was with the transmission and how it delivered power. But, he spent a vast majority of the review talking about switches and how it looked, not the perceived faults.

>EB, auto, no PP
>expecting it to be an out-of-the-box performance experience
>not understanding this particular configuration's intended demographic

The comments dig in on him pretty hard. Seeing as his criticism was all centered around driving dynamics, it would help if we was testing a car with a 6MT (complains about lack of engine braking... wut) with a more performance-oriented suspension and rubber to go along with it.

One of the top backed comments from the article:

From one Andrew to another, you’ve fallen prey to the age-old problem that befalls many people that write about cars: You think this car is for one audience, when in fact it’s for another.
This is not the Mustang that all the fun-bros will buy; that’s the GT. This is not the transmission that enthusiasts will get; that’s the manual. This is not the enthusiast model, and that’s proven because it was so heavily discounted at Enterprise that you cross-shopped it with whatever shitty Chrysler 200 they wanted to give you.
This is the Mustang that, more likely than not, will be purchased by the non-enthusiasts, the ones that like the looks but don’t care as much about pep, zip, or whatever other onomatopoeia I can come up with. They care about fuel economy, general comfort, and a decent selection of gizmos to fuck around with and eventually ignore. In that sense, I think this spec of Mustang is just fine. The first Mustang ever sold was bought by a little blonde woman who wanted something cute and fun; it wasn’t bought by the Stig for burnouts and lateral g’s. I think you’ve obfuscated the original message of the Mustang a bit.
But in terms of talking just to enthusiasts, you’re spot the fuck on. This combination of motor and transmission results in an experience less exhilarating than the one that many have ascribed to the Mustang over the years, which has helped that mythos build as time moves along.
Although I do think that buying a car for its potential as a base is a fine thing to do. It’s why Subaru built the shit out of the chassis and left the engine alone in the new STI; the aftermarket is already thick with ways to get more power out of it, and for much cheaper than a major automaker would be able to provide. Thus, they spent time doing what the aftermarket couldn’t — developing a chassis that’s more than sorted to handle all that extra power, if it comes.
The remainder of your review seemed to be rather positive, insofar as the Mustang’s handling characteristics were concerned. It’s very much like the STI in that case then — it’s a solid chassis with a powertrain that leaves a fair bit on the table. So, yeah, this is a base off which to make it your own. Or grandma can leave it alone and keep it tame.
But if you want to sell a car to hundreds of thousands of people (Ford is a business, not the Red Cross for Hoons), the worst thing you can do is immediately alienate 90% of that group because it’s way too powerful.
The car isn’t bad. It’s just not aligning with your personal tastes.

People seem to forget that one of the aspects of a pony car is a "wide range of often lucrative options to individualize each car." Always better to cater to as many as you can, rather than just one small group.

Well following this logic pretty soon the GT will be a shit car when the GT350 is out.

I hope this guy wasn't paid for this review. And I do not agree with his comments. He was a bit more kind to the V-6s but I believe he had a preconceived animus against the EBs before he pushed the start button. Sad use of my time...

WTF is he talking about. The EB is my wifes car and is an auto. With traction control on you can spin the tires from a dig, and is head and shoulders above my track edition g35 coupe with brembos and a 6mt.

I agree with the commenter posted here, if it was my car it would be a GT with an MT. But that review is trying to make something of a base ecoboost that is was never intended to be.

Not too many people looking for a track car would get an auto trans

I'd love the power of the v8. Whenever they get me 32 mpg that my ecoboost makes then I'll get the gt.
