Has anyone seen an EB with 150,000 miles on the clock? I haven't heard of one, but I have heard of many Coyotes though. Just saying...

I have no glue why EcoBoost buyers like to compete with a Mustang V8. We have a saying in Germany: "If you play with the big guys - watch that you not wet yourself." I bought an EcoBoost and know that you can't go save on 400+ HP, the risk of blowing the engine without upgrading the engines too. If someone likes to have 426 HP - get a GT right away.
I think you are completely missing the point of many EB buyers modding our cars rather than getting the GT. I weighed whether I wanted a base model GT missing many of the things I love about the premium or if I would rather have a loaded EB. I chose the EB and now with a few simple mods I have both the power, sound and premium features/packages that I wanted. Plus good gas mileage

There are also other things like not being able to get the GT PP in auto that drove my decision

What??? So you think that there are no F150s, Taurus shos, fusions etc with an eb engine that have surpassed 150K miles? the engine is built to last and is in no way known for failing in mass numbers.

Stupid comment

Can't agree more and also the fact that a car with 310hp and 320tq stock is plenty for city driving. If your going to take the car to the track then go for the GT. The ecoboost offers plenty of fun though and has a good weight balance also. I keep going back to the point that the ecoboost has more HP and TQ then my 2006 gt had. Crazy power out of a 4cylinder. I remember how awesome I thought it was to get 300hp out of the V8 in 2006 :)
Yup, totally agree. I suppose it all depends what you want to do with your car on which powertrain you choose. In this case you and I seem to agree. However, if a potential owneer wants to cruise up nice and slow to the car meet at the local hamburger joint on Friday night with a V8 and loud exhaust then they gotta get the GT.

Like you, here is my personal Mustang history:

This is the most powerful Mustang I have ever owned so far. What am I going to do with more? I do not street race. I do not autocross or race at the street course. I do not drag race. I do not frequent the car bragging events at the local pubs. What do I do? I drive the thing. I can go from a stop to illegal in 1 more second than it takes the 5.0L version. For me the car is awesome and I have no issues shifting in traffic. It is totally awesome!

The 2.3 is to new to know these numbers for sure. I don't know anyone that has put 150,000miles on a engine that just was released into production last year. So far only hearing good things though and I'm hoping to get over 150,000 miles on mine. I do plan to take really good care of it which should help in this case. Hoping both engines hold up well as it will only help all our resale values.

the funny thing is, you're all comparing stock to modded....
the coyote is an amazing engine and is proven to last no matter how hard you beat it... the guys running in top contention in Formula Drift series use either the 2jz or the Coyote platform. I use them as a reference because they are running their engines at high RPM continuously.
if I put a tune, headers, and CAI in my car I'd be pooping on you "modded" ecoboosts. if I left it stocked, you would still get pooped on.

Yes but that also re-expands the cost difference and negates the warranty benefit

ok, so then compare stock vs stock. still the same thing.
I drove the ecoboost first when I was thinking about buying. it has 310hp.
my stock e90 335i has 300.
the eco was sluggish and not alive. the 335i was an animal compared to the eco. I was not in sport mode or track mode, so that may be the difference. like I said, the eco is good for what it is. a fuel efficient fun having machine. its not a force to be reckoned with.
now, if ford offered the TT V6 ecoboost engine in the next few years, you better believe I will be trading in the GT for that.

This 2.3 EB is a new engine is what I was saying. As to my stupid comment, as a Ford stockholder I want this engine to have great durability. As to whether or not I know anything about EB engines, I presently own and drive a ford 150 with the EB. And my wife has the Escape with the 2.0 EB. These EB engines are durable in stock form and I am happy with my two. However, I doubt that the engine is as durable when totally tricked or modded out. You might just ask Ford if they will honor their warranty with your tune installed? When I wanted to "tune" my 2013 GT, they would honor only the FRPP tunes and parts. I hope that the Mustang EBs have great durability but I doubt that a highly tuned one can make 150,000miles. No one knows.

I would think this would depend a lot on the tune people are using also. If you are pulling over 400hp on the stock internals my guess is this will not end well. A more conservative increase may be ok though. Hard to say since I'm no mechanic. Ford isn't going to warranty any after market tunes not made by them on any car. Have to pay to play right. Don't think anyone is arguing the 5.0 is the way to go if you want the most power either. Just saying the ecoboost has its place and is a great car also. Lets all go back to bashing Camaro's now or Challangers... Would be fun to blow by a R/T in a ecoboost now wouldn't it be :) Think that is quite doable too for not much money or risk :)

Yes, Thxultra, that would be great fun. Have you seen some of the YouTube vids of what some of the EBs can put down at the track? Some are just amazing.

Ya I have been watching those and it is crazy what they are getting out of these cars. Those Challanger R/T's are heavy so I think it is doable without running crazy boost and killing the internals.

I still haven't seen any definitive answer on whether a dealer can see that a car has been tuned, if there are a certain number of cycles that the tune shows up in the codes after flashing to stock, and I haven't seen an actual first hand experience of someone who returned to stock tune and was denied a warranty claim.

The only comments I've seen are from ppl who really have no idea how it works

If I had to do it again I'd buy the GT.

By the end of July I'll see if I'll be keeping it based on cooling issues I've had road racing.

At that point id either sell it or swap a 5.0 in it.

Are you having cooling system issues or heat issues with the intake air? Do you have the Performance Package (which I believe had a larger radiator)?
