As car lovers, I believe we have two big fears that are the strongest; Getting into an accident or getting brutal scratches on your baby. Unfortunately, I got to learn what the second fear felt like today.

I parked all the way out across the parking lot like I do everyday at work and came outside to go get lunch on my break when I noticed something that looked like bird poop on the front of my car..

Got a little closer and I felt my heart stop for a second........

Not even a note or sorry left on my window. Words could not describe the anger I felt at that moment. :paddle: Unfortunately, I didn't have my dash cam going at the moment as I always put it in my center console when parked to avoid getting my car broken into while I am at work for numerous hours.

The scratches have some parts as you can see that are pretty deep, especially the upper "snout" of the car. Everyone at work said it would be a good idea to go through my insurance with my $500 deductible, but my mother is not wanting to do that fearing of the insurance company dropping us especially from giving them a hard time with my recent accident from February (no fault). What do you guys think about taking my 'Stang to a body shop? What exactly would they do and how much would an estimate be to get this horrid scene removed? I'm thinking if it's going to be over $300-400, I may as well just go ahead and buy racing stripes to cover it up that way.

Help me out here, my Mustang buddies! :frusty:

That's terrible! :(
Sorry that happened to you. People suck when they don't leave notes. :tsk:
I don't know your insurance history, but if you want to avoid that route and plan on covering the damage with stripes you may still have to fill in the dings first?
I dunno...there seems to be some significant damage there...the bumper is dented and the hood looks distorted...you may have to bite the bullet and do the insurance thing. Buffing, touchup paint and a dent wizard won't cut it.
But at least it will look like new again :)
Good luck!

@WesleyEng - No cameras, unfortunately. I work in retail and the only cameras we have that reach the parking lot are the ones we have to manually control and position at that moment; any other time they are focused inside our store.

@Klumpikat - I know, it's such an upsetting feeling that you can't have nice things because some people want to be assholes. What are you meaning when you said the hood looks distorted? Are you talking about how the scratch is so deep you can see the fiber? lol Oh, I am so upset.

That's such a bad feeling to come out and see something like that. Someone must have backed into the front end? Is it a tight parking lot?

If it makes you feel better, the very first day I got the car, I parked in the street overnight, and the next morning I noticed my rear driver side quarter panel was sticking out for some reason. I figured it had to do with something from assembly so I pushed it back in and it was good as new, but then when I brought over to my welder to do a muffler delete and he was raising it on the lift, he asked me

"You got hit already?"

I had no idea what he was talking about until he pointed out the thumb sized dent and scratches on that panel! My heart fucking sank. Not even 24 hours of ownership and someone already hit it!

No, I mean the hood is not smooth on top, like it was just short of being crumpled.
Def looks like someone backed into it :( :(

Makes the chip my door handle got yesterday seem minuscule in comparison (never a shortage of idiots kicking their doors open).

Sorry to see that though. If your insurance is gonna hassle you, then it may be best to get a quote from a body shop to see what that would cost.

I don't get that damage, its a slashing line from top to bottom, looks like it pushed in a lot! the horse emblem has a slash in it, so the entire front end took a good compressing.

The hood, front bumper, supports, etc all can be affected.

But if it was a car that hit you it would be worse and in more areas. Maybe it was a shopping cart? Mystery at 11...

You have to ask yourself do you want this fixed right and correctly? If so pay the $500.00... You can have your Mom call the insurance company and straight ask them if you will be dropped for another claim.

I agree, I have been scrutinizing these photos too...it is a mysterious slash, and pretty thorough, to the ground. 'Compressed' is a good word indeed. Would a forklift cause that damage? What would make a scratch at that angle? Doesn't look like other paint was left behind. When impact was made I wonder if the front end was lifted up off the ground in the process. Bizarre.

That really sucks :( You might want to consider one of the $500 bumpers on eBay.

I don't know if you have shopping carts in your lot but my bet would be a cart hit and then fell over causing that angled scratch.

DONT PARK NEAR OTHER CARS. SAVE THE EXTRA 20 SECONDS OF WALKING!!!!
The OP clearly stated he parked out across the parking lot. And just because you park in an empty area does not mean no one will park near you anyway.

Every time I park away from other cars in the back of a lot I get 2-3 POS cars that think they are funny and park next to me.
