Not too sure if this should go here or not, but since some have asked the plastic piece on the center dash pries up with a little force. 4 tabs hold it in plus 2 tabs in the front that go under the center gauge dash piece, you will need to pry that back to get those tabs out. Then you will see the small center speaker. I have pictures and will post soon.

Seems like a lot of work to get to something that isn't really in the way. Wouldn't it make more sense to just tape off the wires somewhere under the kick panel and leave it be, or does it daisy-chain off another signal wire somewhere behind the dash?

You might be right. I replaced the speaker. But yes you could disconnect the wires from the amp as it has it's own run from the amp

Does anyone have a wiring diagram that spells out what wires are what in the passenger side rear deck harness? My shop tapped that harness for R&L
+/- and 12v switched for a LOC and also grounded it in rear deck. Yesterday a full day after install I inspected their work (moving wires and LOC) and my car all of a sudden wouldn't start (would turn over and over but no bang) I unplugged the LOC and went back in car and it fired up immediately. Trying to determine if they accidentally tapped a signal wire instead of 12v switched that is causing the starting issue or if I just so happened to have a starting issue that coincided with my LOC inspection. Anyone know if there is security or fuel or signal wiring in that passenger rear deck harness??

that sounds bad, i think that box that is on the rear deck is involved with the radio signal for the keyfob, so there is a good chance your starting problem was not a coincidence. i dont really know why it would turn over but not start, but the timing is just too damning. I have let my access to the wiring diagrams expire, hopefully someone else can still look at that harness for you.

Hey Heinoceros - thanks, where can I buy a copy of the diagrams? Unless it's something crazy expensive I'd do it just for peace of mind.

the problem is you cant really buy them as far as i can tell. you can get a subscription to their on-line service to view them, and its 20 bucks for a month or something. The details are in this thread somewhere right after the wiring diagram posts. the web address is http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=

and the last time i used it chrome still didnt work, you have to use firefox or that other browser.

You get this resolved? If you need, I can snap a picture of the 12v keyed wire I have tapped so you can compare. I haven't fully tucked that harness back away yet.

+1.

I'm still wanting to buy a factory sub and tap into the rear harness for signal, but i need the wiring diagram for the rear harness. I have a base system and definitely need more bass. I like the idea of the factory unit since it mounts in place and just "fits" as opposed to an after market off the shelf or the pains of a custom set. The factory sub also has it's own amp, so i just need signal.

Has anyone else tried this?

Oh and does anyone have the part # for the complete sub/amp unit? I want to start pricing.

I'm just waiting on someone to be the guinea pig and figure out the process of taking apart the a pillar to replace the base model tweeters.

Sounds like we would need to run a cross over and a new wire from the door to pillar.

Someone go first so we know what fits and so I don't break something.
