So i am on the fence between a 91 octane and 93 octane tune. the closest gas station with 94 octane is about 30 mins away, so needless to say i couldnt fill up there everytime.

So my question is: is 91 octane gas with octane booster in it at all comparable to the quality of 93 octane gas? Ive just never used octane booster, and had now clue if it is ok to use.

Thanks!

The whole octane topic has been discussed ad nauseam. Some people think it's a waste to even put premium in a 5.0, and some people think it's blasphemy not to. The reality is if you have a stock engine, you aren't going to notice any difference.

I have tuned my car with the 93 octane tune. I was just wondering if 91 gas with octane booster is even close to as good as actual 94 octane from the pump. Ive never used a booster before. Not sure if it really works.

I had a "93 tune" in my SHO. A boosted car that actually benefits from more octane.

While i tried to put 93 gas in, some times 91 was best I could get. The car does a fine job pulling timing. You should have no issues. Especially on a normally aspirated car.

Don't foul your spark plugs by using octane booster.

Thats what i was asking. If theres any draw back from using octane booster, and if its any different or worse than 93 straight from the pump...

Torce race fuel concentrate is not a scam. I have seen this used on 1000rwhp C5 Vettes and quite a few blown Cobras. It works, we don't use it in the BMW E9X M3 crowd as it can leave a orangish residue on the plugs. The plugs on the S65 engine is used for knock detection and can interfere with this. If you are just using it just to get to 93 octane you would be fine. It does work...

Now if you are talking about 104+ and such, save your money.

FYI http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html

IMO if your going to tune for a higher octane then is available at the pump, then you might as well use race gas cuz your playin with fire when you mix.
Even the e85 guys will test thier local pump for summer/winter mixs since it can be as low as e70s.

If you are tuning your car do NOT use any artificial octane boosters. For example, our tuning is so exact that if you loaded our 93 octane tune because you normally use = to or>93 octane and filled up with 89 and tried to use a booster to try to create 93 you would get spark knock and could potentially hurt something. Because our MyCalibrator tuner can hold 4 custom tune files at a time we would rather provide you with 89,91 and 93 octane tuning. We even build extra logic into our 93 tuning to make automatic adjustments for higher octane levels than 93.

Also keep in mind that when a bottle of octane booster says it raises octane by a "point", that actually means it will raise octane by ~.1-.2. So 91 octane becomes roughly 91.1 or 92.2 maybe. You spent a lot of money to go up a tenth of an octane.

The link posted by mdnt has good info. Cheapest boost is bulk purchasing toluene and following the guides people have put together for ratios per gallon of fuel.

Here is the blend sheet for the Torco Race Fuel concentrate, generally 1 32oz. can of Torco raises 15 gallons of 91 to just over 96 octane.
