Hi guys, I am considering getting a mustang in the future, most likely the V6 or the eco boost. I was curious about the rev matching feature in the automatic. How does it work? Can any one show a video demonstration or something. And does the V6 model have it? I also have a hard time choosing between manual and automatic. Only driven manual car 3 or 4 times. I can't imagining driving in traffic.

All Mustang automatics have the same transmission. I don't know about rev matching; I haven't noticed it in any way.

All auto Mustangs feature rev matching on downshifts.

What it is: when shifting to a lower gear, rev matching is the use of throttle input to bring engine speed up in order to match the wheel speed (lower gears = higher RPMs while traveling at the same speed). In a manual car, it's done by prodding the throttle to spike the revs up before you engage the clutch for a lower gear. In an automatic car, the computer adds the precise amount of throttle needed to match speeds.

Why it's useful: a couple of reasons. For one, it reduces drivetrain whiplash that can stem from an abrupt "mis-matching" of wheel and engine speeds as they engage. Two, during spirited driving, and mainly under braking more than anything, it helps maintain your car's balance by making the gearshift one swift movement without upsetting inertia or the delivery of power to the driven wheels.

It also sounds cool when matched to a nice engine. :)

My GT rev matches when you use the paddle shifters to downshift, that is the only time I notice it.

Try changing the driving mode to Sport+. I think you'll notice it then. :)

Doesn't need to be in sport mode. Works in normal also.

Only you can decide what's best for you. Both are excellent.

One of my favorite features. I drive in 'S' instead of 'D'. If you do or don't want to use the paddle's it does all the shifting for ya, the down shifts are unreal sounding because of the rev match + it is very useful as OppoLock explained...I have ARH CB-H on my car, it is sweet sounding that rev-matching.

+1 I love the downshifting in S, it sounds so great.

This. Rev matching does not operate in Drive. It operates in Sport (Transmission in S) and also if you put the Drive Mode into Sport + or Track. And it works on paddle-shifted downshifts.

It sounds for all the world like some little gremlin is double-clutching the car. I love it when I am playing, but it's a little overkill for just putting around so I leave the car in Drive for that.
