Inside Rearview Mirror Shake

Does anyone else have this problem: when you go over a bump or even a pavement strip the inside mirror shakes where if you look at the cars behind you in it you can tell they are shaking or vibrating. Its really annoying. If I grab the mirror housing and grip it tight then the view in the mirror will be steady.

I brought this up to the service dept. They said they tightened it, but it still is just as bad. The Service Manager rode with me and saw it. Then he grabbed a new EB off the lot and I rode with him and saw that car's mirror shake. So they're not really going to do anything, saying that's how they are built. But are they? Do any of you have this? What can be done about it?

I'll pay more attention next time in driving mine. What I seem to be noticing is that the rear view mirror slowly moves down from where i set it. Within a day or two, I notice that I'm seeing much more of the rear deck, and have to push it back up. I'll have to measure it from day to day.

My rear view mirror doesn't shake going over bumps. It vibrates like crazy if I listen to loud music, all of my mirrors do, lol. I never have to readjust it from where I set it.

Maybe I should clarify - the entire housing does not move, the only way you know anything is by looking at whatever is behind you in the mirror and the image has a definite vibration on a bump. The mirror assembly feels tight though, and in fact its very hard to move i.e. adjust it.

Mine does not appear to be driveline. I drive at 70 regularly and she's super smooth. The mirror ONLY vibrates when the car hits a bump.

Is this a joke? If you hit a bump it's normal to notice a vibration in the rear view, you feel it in your seat too when you go over a bump.

My butt doesn't jiggle when I go over a bump. It stays firmly planted in the seat.

I can't remember my '07 because its been 3 months but I drove a Hyundai Sonata and its mirror was steady over the same bumps.

My dear 15POny.. der is difference between sonata and mustang.. Mustangs are litle rough on roads as compared to any family sedans

Mine vibrates all the time now that I figured out how to get bass booster to work on my phone in order to make the Shaker Pro w/Sub sound better. I dunno if that's the same issue or not, and if so, if it's really a problem for me

I got the EXACT SAME RESPONSE. So mad at this issue... after visiting 2 separate dealerships here's my entertaining story.


Dealer 1:
"We recognize the problem, your mirror rattles very bad at 65-70mph. We will have no problem warrantying the part, we'll give you a call when the work is done"...
4 Hours Later:
"Unfortunately we are unable to perform warranty work on your car. Since the build date on your windshield doesn't match the build date of the car (still a factory ford windshield), Ford will not accept our warranty claim for your mirror. We will tighten the mirror (didn't help a lick) but you will need to visit the dealer you bought the car from since they sold you the car as is..."


... Great, let's go visit them


Dealer 2 (where I bought the car)
"Come on in, there should be no issue and we'll get your car fixed asap.."
30 Minutes Later...
"We can not fix your mirror. We've done about 10 of these so far and Ford refuses to accept any additional warranty claims related to rearview mirror rattle. You will need to submit a consumer claim directly to ford and either a technitian will visit you or you will be assigned a specific fix from the manufacturer directly..."

"What about the additional 12 month certified bumper-to-bumper warranty that came with the car specific to the dealership? Shouldn't that cover anything that Ford can't?"

"Yes it does, but since this is a "cosmetic" part the certified bumper-to-bumper warranty can't cover it.."



What the hell..??? Ford you made a part that is literally UNUSABLE at speed.. then tell me you have no solution to fix it due to a factory driveline vibration. Literally at speed you can't tell what cars are behind you it shakes so bad... this can be classified as a safety issue with the car, since mirrors are a pretty important tool to help you drive safely. :frusty::frusty::frusty:

I'm starting to think its just a poor design. I had mine done before I had any windshield replacements I think, but now that I'm on my 4th windshield (Ford OEM part) I think they'd treat me just like they did you.

I bought a roll of 1/2" wide flocking tape via Amazon. Using it for dash rattles.

However, I also applied narrow strips to the two edges at the side of the shoe plate for the mirror. My mirror's image vibrates at 80mph, but I haven't had a chance to verify that I fixed it.

Regardless, there was play between the windshield and shoe plate - until I added the flocking tape.

I had bad mirror rattle at stated speed above. I went to a dealer and they replaced the mirror assembly but nothing changed.

It finally got fixed "SOMEHOW" when I got Pro-Action Non- Adjustable Shocks and Steeda Sportline Linear for EB. It no longer RATTLES. I wonder if it had to do with the resonance frequency of EB PP shock/strut/spring combo...

Bottom line.. it disappeared on its own after lowering job. LOL

NOPE the rattle came back.
