Good numbers! what were the pressure drop vs stock results? fftec tested but didn't report stock pressure drop either.

Have you tested with all body work installed? splash pan?
I see how cooling air flow gets in thru grilles but seems like evacuation is restricted by splash pan.

Thanks Patrick! During this test, pressure drop numbers were fairly similar between our cooler and the stock unit. When we compile our second batch of data we will be sure to include a pressure drop chart comparing both coolers.

We have not yet tested this cooler with the bumper and splash pan installed. This data will also be collected during our second round of tests. We are hoping to collect on-road temperature logs which will allow the cooler to receive more realistic airflow. Our existing intercooler fan is only capable of producing air speeds of around 30-40 mph.

Any new development & do you plan on marketing an intake/intercooler combo for purchase? I keep reading about stages for turbo cars as that is something new to me.

So i have a question. I just purchased the gt grill for my eb, and I read that you have to remove the shutters. Could this cause any adverse effects? are they even important enough to worry about?

P.S. I hope its fine that I post this here. I love mishimoto's products and would love your knowledge on this :) thanks in advance

You may lose a tad of MPG, but I doubt it. The shutters are heavy and block a lot of air. No ill effects from having them off, or code.

I just installed my IC, and kept them off.

New development update coming in the next post! At this time, we do not plan to offer the intercooler and intake in a package of some sort. That being said, it is certainly something we will keep in mind if we continue to get requests for such a kit.

Thanks Neo! The shutters work to speed up vehicle warmup and improve fuel mileage through better aero. Removing them will not cause any problems, perhaps a touch lower fuel mileage. Another interesting fact, the 50th Anniversary edition EB does not include the shutters from the factory.

The Mustang EcoBoost Intercooler, Part 4: Final Prototype Design

Prototype Modeling
Now that we had a core that was functioning to our standards, it was time to finalize our end tank design and make 3D models to reflect our plans. After some lengthy modeling work, we came up with the renders you see below!

A few quick notes about this cooler! We designed this unit to fit within the same space as the stock intercooler. We designed cast-aluminum end tanks, which will be mated to the bar-and-plate core we tested during the previous (Part 3) segment of this series. We are also retaining the stock intercooler connections, which are large enough for sufficient flow to produce rather high power.

For this cooler we were concerned with pushing air to the entire thickness of the cooler. During the design of this cooler we experimented with internal end tank diverters. We’ve used these diverters on a few of our taller coolers to help promote airflow to the full length of the intercooler. By doing so we can take full advantage of the large core.
First, check out the dispersion of air without any internal diverter, as demonstrated by computational fluis dynamics (CFD).

As you can see, the diverter placement is making a fairly significant impact on the air dispersion to the rear of the cooler. We decided this was the route to go, and we will be including this feature on our next prototype. It will be very interesting to see the impact of this change on the outlet temperatures.

3D-Printed Prototype
To verify fitment, we 3D-printed our end tanks to obtain the exact dimensions of our design so we could fit this to the vehicle and ensure that we were spot-on.

First, the tanks were printed.

Once printed, we attached these to a prototype core and mocked up the unit into place to confirm all our dimensions and mounting points.
